I have been searching long and hard for a quality safe at a good price from a reputable dealer. Let me first say that I don't have any involvement in the company who sold the safe or the manufacturer. This will be a really great deal for people living near Fort Worth, TX like me. I bought a new 2010 Winchester Silverado 22 cubic foot for $825 this past week. It has all the bells and whistles. left right AND top/bottom 1 1/2" bolts. 90 minute fire rating at 1,400 degrees. Electronic key pad. It will hold 24 long guns or tweleve with storage shelves on one side and a main fixed top shelf. It weighs in at 700 lbs. Granite Security Products is the manufacturer and their main warehouse is in Fort Worth. The guy I bought it from is in California. It is called "The Safe Place." I dealt with Bill and he was top notch. The sweet thing is since he is out of state and it was on the Internet there was no sales tax and since I picked it up there was no delivery. The safe itself was on sale for 37% off. It is 60" H x 24" D x 30" W.

It took five of us to get it in my house using a hand truck that was rated for 800 lbs. The tires and axle complained bitterly but did not give. Once in, I was able to slowly scoot it into place by myself. I will have it bolted down later this week.

Anyway, I am proud of my first "big boy" safe. I think I got a great deal. Liberty, Cannon, Browning and other brands were much more expensive comparably equipped. No pics due to one camera being broken and my wife is in China with the other. It is purely a coincidence that I got my safe while my wife was half way around the world! ;) :D

OK, if that's the way you want to spin it. I thought maybe you'd been married long enough that you had learned it's just as easy to ask forgiveness as it is to ask for permission. That method has served me well for better than 20 years so far.

To expand on that...sometimes you NEVER get permission. Eventually you will get forgiven. ( Flowers, jewelry, nice vacations are helpful lubricants)

Costco has what I consider to be a great buy on a Winchester safe. Check on line, however the one I'm looking at is not there but is in the store. Not sure of the specifics aside from price. $499.99

Oh yeah, my wife gave me a SA M1a Scout Squad in Cammo for our 25th. I married well, so I don't have to make excuses or give apologies often.
 
Thanks for the post! I've been looking for a good, fairly large gun safe for a while now, and I think this one fills the bill.
 
Be careful with some of these Winchester (also sold as Red Heads @ Bass Pro) safes imported by Granite Security.

Some of these safes are using very inexpensive (junk), non rated, electronic locks. We have not only seen several problems with these locks, but the design is such that I can open many of them with a coat hanger (I'm very serious).
 
CHEAP gun safes

GOOD gun safes cost BIG MONEY. Don't think for ONE minute that you got a deal. Call up Brown safe company and ask them what a minimum safe should be. If the door isn't MINIMUM half inch SOLID armor plate and the sides aren't MINIMUM quarter inch armored plate you have a safe a high schooler can get through in 5 minutes. Electronic locks won't work if and when an EMP (electro magnetic pulse from a nuclear weapon or some other device) goes off. Our OWN government forecasted that MILLIONS will die if an EMP device is detonated above the US. EVERY refrigerator made now contains a circuit board as does EVERY generator (electronic ignition) and every furnace. MILLIONS of people will NOT have power, food, MEDICATION for MONTHS-from ONE A-BOMB detonated in outer space courtesy of North Korea or Iran. Good luck opening your cheap electronic locks-at least you can get a high school kid to hack through it when the lock fails! Think about making a hidden compartment or dry walling your guns into a wall before you buy a cheap safe.

Uhmm, maybe my safe with an electronic lock is different but it also has a special key to use in case the batteries go dead or there is a problem with the electronics. I bought this safe several years ago and remember that other safes with electronic locks had similar provisions.

By the way you forgot to add LED flashlights to your list of items that would probably be knocked out by an EMP. Also it is now possible to have a EMP bomb that is NOT based on a nuclear warhead but rather a superconducting magnet similar to what is used in a MRI machine.

Heh. I dunno why, but i think its funny that Larry123 has pointed out that a high schooler could get into it in 5 minutes, but once the lock fails with the EMP, he wont be able to get into it and to his guns.

Hopefully the poster went to high school and will be able to enter his safe during Armageddon, in about five minutes.

BTW, I know the people you think your talking about and they've NEVER said "MILLIONS" will die in the event of an EMP. NEVER! Get a higher quality tin foil for that beanie, the lead in what your using is poisoning you.

Congrats on your new safe. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Don't let those that say you need to spend the price of a new car to get a 'decent' gun safe, let the wind out of your sails. They 'might' have something 'better' than yours ( and mine ). But I bet somebody has theirs beat as well. I'm surprised we haven't heard "It's a RSC and not a true safe." Yea, and it didn't weight 5,000 lbs, cost $15K and require a crane to install either;)

Before you get it bolted to the floor, be sure to run power to the inside. Handy to put a power strip in there for a de-humidifer, lights & whatever.

Congrats on getting a safe. I'm sure it will work fine for ya.
I'd encourage getting a dehumidifier rod for it.
If you're in a damp climate, they'll sure sweat inside.

Most safe attacks- even on the 6,000 pounders involve holes being cut through the sides of one, not the door.
From the size & weight, you've probably got a 1/4" door and the other panels are 1/8", which is about the most popular construction type in the home gun safe industry because it works well for such a large percentage of the population.
They do need to be bolted down. You've experienced how they can be moved.
And after you've done it a time or two, with a bigger dolly- it gets easier and faster.

Most residential crooks are opportunists, and don't want to spend a extra second in someone else's house they don't need to.
Don't leave your own torch or saws-all out in sight, and you probably will never have an attack on your gun safe.
Anyone who brings their own cutting tools to the party- probably would be more interested in a safe with SEVERAL! thousand more dollars worth of cash & valuables inside it than yours probably has.
For that crook, it don't matter what ya got. Without a armed guard standing next to it, they're gonna get in it
