gun belt question

I'm looking for a good gun belt. I carry a G19 in a Comp-Tac MTAC. I'm delighted with the holster but the weight makes my current (non-gun) belt droop down. I'm assuming a good belt will alleviate that.

I'm open to about anything and I seldom 'dress up' so a duty type belt would be fine.
Comp-Tac has some nice leather for around $90 that is Kydex lined as seen here:

Less money would be fine though. I've read about Instructor belts and they are priced about $50 so that would-be good. I was looking, and they offer them in different stiffness's. I would assume I want a stiff belt, is that correct?

What I was thinking is the Wilderness Instructor belt with the CSM polymer lined for +10 That would put me at $50 plus shipping. As seen here:

Any suggestions? I've pocket carried some and my last gun I IWB'd was a Kahr so a gun belt was never a issue. But like I said the weight is making my belt sag.

I've been using a "Hanks Amish Belt" for a while now with great results. Can't beat these for a great value and short money. Many great reviews on line to back up my own experience with them. Read about the sizing though, as they can run a bit on the small size. I went two sizes up , and it's just right.

Savit260: Thanks for the link to Hank's. Hands down the best price I've seen on a leather belt for CCW. What do you carry in yours/do you think it's enough to hold up an all steel 1911 govt model?

WOW Thank You! Thats an option for sure. 1/4" Thick for under $30 including shipping! I may just go with that, heck a regular belt cost as much.

A 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt , and a 4" Colt Python. A Govt. Model should be a breeze. All day with the Blackhawk or Python is no problem at all.

They ship real quick too. I' m very happy with mine.
 
Just remember they run small. Read some of the reviews too. Most people go +2 sizes over your waist size.
 
I like the wilderness belts allot. 5 stitch is plenty!

I have a frequent flier and an instructor model. They are both fantastic, but I prefer the FF because the ring buckles never dig in and weigh nearly nothing.

I use that same holster with a G-26. It is a winning combo for sure! Wilderness belt, MTAC holster, and a Glock are hard to beat.

Dose anyone know if the excess on the Wilderness is then held on with velcro? I'm talking after you cinch it up?
The advantage I see is, adjust-ability. But what happens to the excess once cinched up?

Well crud.

I just dropped a money order into the mail this morning for $86.95 to The Beltman.net ... and NOW somebody posts about this Amish thing.

I coulda had a black AND a brown for less than my Beltman belt. :(

Oh well, apparently this Beltman belt will be the last belt I ever buy (so I've been told).


So reading the reviews I gotta wonder how the Amish feel about so many people using their belts to carry guns :p
 
I love my Beltman belt. Plus, Jim is a really nice guy. I had an enjoyable phone conversation with him before I placed my order. He does an outstanding job, and I will surely be ordering more belts from him in the future (different styles, materials, etc.)

Also, if you own a Beltman belt, take a look under the area held down by the Chicago screws (for instance, when changing your belt buckle). You'll notice that Jim puts your initials there on the leather (on the inside). I think that really adds a nice personal touch.

All cuts of leather are not the same. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. It is easy to try to get a good but cheap gun belt and fail repeatedly. I'll let you guess how I know.

Beltman belts are worth every cent; you will have no buyers remorse.
 
Not really leather, but I've been wearing Liger gun belts for about two years now. They've got a modern-ish, simplistic look to them, and will not warp, fade, crack, 'roll' under weight, etc. I believe they use the same material to make synthetic tack items. They do, however, usually leave a healthy sweat ring around my waistband on hot days, as they're not quite that breathable.

I suspect I'll be very happy with my Beltman belt (based on the buzz on the net there are a LOT of people that swear its the best built in existence), but the Amish one is 1/3rd the cost so if its only half as good that's still a good deal. That said, a year from now I doubt I'll miss the extra $50 I spent.


Would love to hear from folk with experience with both.

I'm sure the Beltman is a fine belt, but let me tell ya that the Hank's Amish belt does a fine job too for very short money. It's not fancy...very basic, but works quite well. Very stiff and carries the load of my Blackhawk and Python well. No buyers remorse here, and my wallet is a little less light. :)
 
Thanks, guys, great info! I've been carrying with a CQC Blackhawk belt for several years, but I think I'll be ordering one from Hanks in the near future.

Yes, it is. Also, the Velcro extends partially into the area where your holster rides, giving the belt extra friction against the straps or slots. There is no chance the holster can slip.

I have both. I use the BeltMan belts for carry, the CrossBreed belt for work (industrial site) and the Amish belt for ... ...
Where is that thing?

Oh, yeah, I use it to hold up outer pants for when I'm motorcycling in cold weather!

The amish belts are seriously nice, but not up to the task of holding a heavy gun long-term. I stole the buckle off of mine and put it on another belt, because I like roller buckles. That belt isn't exclusive to Hanks, either. I see them at gun shows, I see them at big&tall stores, and I see them at work-wear stores. They are really good belts, but they're nothing compared to a dedicated and purpose-built gunbelt.
 
As bigfatdave said there is a difference. The Amish belt is clearly a single layer of leather. Beltman and A&G both make double layered belts. That's why they cost more.

Think of the added strength a sheet of plywood has over a similarly thick single layer of wood.

And it is a good thick leather, too.
But there's a structural improvement in the two-layer design, and bullhide or horsehide are a bit stiffer on their own ... plus you can get a stiffener in between the layers of a two-layer belt.
 
I just got a Crossbreed gun belt that I got along with my holster. Same quality craftsmanship on the belt as to the holster. Amazing. Along with the great warranty they have. I couldn't be happier.

***note on warranty. Beltman covers one year. Crossbread is lifetime warranty and free repair for any normal wear usage.....ie:this is the last belt I'll ever have to buy.

True, but unless you're carrying really heavy you probably won't need it. I've been carrying my SIG229 on my Beltman belt 7 days a week for five years, no problems.
