I'm building a scratch 1911 from a Caspian frame and slide, and will be using a Kart EZ Fit 5" barrel. Is finish reaming something I should have done just as a matter of doing it "right" from the get-go? I've read that these are high quality barrels reason they're so popular but they can be on the tighter side of in-spec and I don't want to get everything up and running and then find out that mine is too tight or the chamber to shallow/headspace. Its also something Im considering doing now since I have the barrel but I'm about 5 weeks from the frame slide, so that I'm ready to start assembly and fitting.

I also don't want to spend upwards of $100 on a reamer and handle for one-time use so I may be looking for someone to help a fellow out for a few bucks.

Finish reaming any barrel after it is fit, is the recommended procedure. The head space can not be correctly determined until the barrel is fit to the slide, to begin with, so do that last. Manson reamers are recommended.

Good advice above. You can get a clue after fitting the hood. Do a plunk test with a .452 lead load and see if it sounds right and if the depth is right.
