AK sight question

Two questions I could not find a good answer to when searching.

1. How do you use the windage adj tool? The thing that looks like a "c-clamp". When you place it on one side of the front sight there does not appear to be enough clearance for the pin to move. I must be using it wrong.

2.on the rear ramp there are markings "G,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" I assume this is in meters. The problem if it is lower than say 4 the top of the gas tube obstructs the view of the front sight. What gives?

There should be a hole in the C-clamp thing to push the carrier rod into -- it takes a lot of force and you do have to have it aligned correctly.

I don't understand this unless someone put a rail on the gas tube or some other over sized handguard.

In my case it took A LOT of force to move the front sight...but it really isn't difficult to do.

There is absolutely no reason why there should be any obstruction of the sights on an unmodified ak.
 
Sometimes it helps to heat up the front sight to loosen the sticky parts.

You can heat it by blasting a couple mags though the gun before you set about "adjusting."

You'll want to be wearing gloves when you grab the front sight after the "warming."

The back of the screwdriver tool from the standard cleaning kit can be used to adjust elevation.

I've found that penetrating oil works for breaking a sticky front sight loose. If that fails, this tool: http://www.magna-matic-defense.com/AKFST-AK-47-Front-Sight-Tool-p/akfst.htm has been lent to several friends that popped open the $6 C clamp tools on their frozen sights.

The Magna-Matic has always won so far.

As to the obstruction, pictures would help immensely.

Thanks for the tips.

I think the hole on the far side of the sight tool may be a tad too small. May need to open it up some with the drill press.

For the rear sight maybe I'm looking at a bad angle, not sure what to think.

If I zero at 100yds at the 4 mark an I doing myself an injustice?
 
Think the AK 7.62x39 is supposed to be zeroed at 18 meters. Been a long time but I think that gives you a POI of 200?? I am really not an AK kinda guy but that seems to ring true. There are 3 zeroes for the AK depending on what round is used 15, 18 and 25 meters. FOUND SOMETHING!!

Another sighting in video that gives you a 100 meter battle zero. Done at 25 meters. If I remember right I zeroed mine in at 25 because most of the stuff I shoot at with the AK is 150 yards or less. Maybe there will be some AK purist come along with other thoughts on the subject.

The gas tube sight thing is a totally different matter. It sounds like the gas tube is/was not seated in the back. Take it off, put it back on and be sure the catch over rides the back of the gas tube. The latch when the gas tube is fully seated should be down at approximately 45 degrees. http://youtu.be/c4tDK99j4E0 Hope this helps.
