I apologize if this has been posted already, though I didn't find it when I looked. Anyway, at least one gun company has finally recognized the serious threat that zombies are posing to our safety and security!

I trust that this may finally lay to rest the time-honored debate about which ammunition is best for the zombie takeover:

I don't think any ammunition would be any different than the other if the were such a fantasy come to life. No need to waste your money on something when ball ammo would be just as good...

if a shovel to the head would kill a zombie i doubt i need a special round.

though im sure alot of people will get it for the novelty. I sure wouldnt mind a box a two

marketing genius. Folks will buy just because of the "neato!" factor.
The only thing that would make it better is if they threw in the Zombie Killer unit patch.

Looks like Hornady borrowed the marketing team from Extreme Shock there.
What kind of bullet are they using?

I'll always watch a decent zombie film or series ( such as the Walking Dead), but as a pop-culture craze, I think it's already past its peak and becoming a bit tired and kitschy.
Not sure why Hornady would make specific "Zombie" ammo... who would actually purchase more than one box of it for other than novelty reasons?
Instead, I think they should have gone for Halloween pricing on their regular ammo, and perhaps made a commercial in which they depict a homeowner taking some target practice, facing a dark, lurking shape outside, and finally a zombie that breaks through a living room window... with a voiceover saying, "Hornady... perfect for the range... home defense... or zombies."

Someone at work gave me a "zombie hunter" patch. He doesnt know where he got it, but I was gonna write "zombie repellant" on my shotgun and he insisted I have it. :)

My brother found some zombie targets that are full of red goop. They bleed when you shoot em up.

Zombie craze is all about marketing, IMO. Its interesting every now and then, but its being WAY overdone.

Zombies on TV, zombies in movies, zombie targets, zombie ammo.....I am thoroughly weary of this nuvo-zombie crap.
Hornady will make a good bit of cash off people buying a box for giggles. Won't be me though.
Perhaps if they made sensible ammo for dispatching shadow men, Chupacabra, or those pesky killer gnomes......
.

I think it's hilarious.

I don't know if ammunition should be funny though. Seems like more of a serious matter.

I bet some lawyer somewhere will make an issue of it the day someone uses zombie ammo in a SD situation. :(

Yeah we don't normally do zombie stuff here but that's pretty danged funny !

Has anyone actually seen the ammo? I'm pretty sure it doesn't really exist, just a funny Halloween joke.

Few more funny comments hopefully then we'll close this one :)

"Disclaimer: Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition is NOT a toy (IT IS LIVE AMMUNITION), but is intended only to be used on…ZOMBIES, also known as the living dead, undead, etc. No human being, plant, animal, vegetable or mineral should ever be shot with Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition. Again, we repeat, Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition is for use on ZOMBIES ONLY, and that's not a nickname, phrase or cute way of referring to anybody, place or thing. When we say Zombies, we mean…ZOMBIES!"

that's a pretty thorough disclaimer. There's no doubt left about what it's for. Hopefully it can still be used to punch paper (just in case the zombie apocalypse never occurs).

Brilliant marketing!
but as a pop-culture craze, I think it's already past its peak and becoming a bit tired and kitschy.

Almost....but at least they're jumping on it in a timely manner. Things truly past their peak were movies like Doom, Alone in the Dark and Tomb Raider. Those games were already ancient history when the movies came out. At least Zombie apocalypse stuff is being talked about now, as silly as it is.

Next time zombie movies are out and vampire movies are back in, I wonder if we'll be seeing the "UV bullets" from Underworld or Blade or whatever it was.

Even more funny that they specifically include 7.62x39, the caliber of the premiere zombie weapon. :D

Looked yellow to me. Either way, I'm not buying into it. Hornady has been so over-priced in my neck of the woods that I don't ever care to when other companies make ammunition that's just as good. I don't know how they get away with it...

Joyce Hornady would turn in his grave.

Oh, wait. Here he comes now....

It is definitely aimed at the gift market. Pretty good idea, too... most gun guys would get a chuckle out of it, and would actually be able to use it too.

However, I don't see how it can be considered serious "zombie ammo" if it doesn't come in the optimal zombie caliber -- .22 LR. Since it is pretty widely recognized that only a head shot works on a zombie, and since pretty much any bullet at a decent velocity will cause enough hypostatic shock to destroy the brain if it enters the cranial cavity, then it makes sense to go with the cheapest, lightest, and most plentiful type of ammo available. Also since zombies are attracted to noise, it makes sense to go with something quiet. But I guess you have to have some sort of center fire for picking them off at longer range too! ;)

Does anyone know what the Z-max bullet is supposed to be? For all we know its just FMJ or a cheap ballistic tip probably intended just for fun at the range!

On a side note though the calibers the ammunition is pretty funny, especially because they are easily the 7 most popular centerfire calibers known to mankind :D
