I ended up going to home depot saturday and made a brass catcher I ended up having 20.00 in it including the shower curtain rings plus a bottle of glue. I tried it out today and seems to work great. You can see in the background the shooting bench I made which lets me shoot 50 yds in the range. DSC01975.jpg
 
That's awesome. For some reason until I saw that picture all I could imagine in the realm of brass catchers was something attached to the gun or shooter. I'm enlightened!
 
I seem to remember a guy years ago that had made a contraption that attached to him. It was 100% functional, but that idea of your's is simply genius because it doesn't interfere with the shooter.

If anyone is looking for cheap easy brass catchers, you could try what I used to use. It was a toy miniature hockey goal. Picked it up at K-Mart, and replaced the webbing with a 1/4" fishing net mesh. Worked great and sat on the shooting bench quite nicely.
 
I've been thinking of building something similar,rather than achoring the curtain all the way around anchor the top as you did but weight the bottom that way the curtain will absorb the impact of the flying case and fall to the ground. The way yours is set up it will act like a trampoline and bounce the cases all over. Not trying to throw a wrench into the works just an observation.
 
It looks like it hangs free to me, even has a curved part at the bottom to catch the brass. How can you tell it's to tight by looking at the picture. The OP said he tried it out and seamed to work.

The blue netting is some military or something like that screen basically I not real sure but is very strong can't wrip it. I also right know just two rods in the ground and set the pvc over them to hold it up. I thought about t's at the bottom and legs front and rear but the ground were we shoot pistols is far from flat. I also will use it down at the shooting bench just to catch all the 22's and all the other rifle brass from being all over the yard. I ahot 380 and 45 at it today and did not trapoline any brass. Using the shower curtain holders it lets it stay nice and loose not tight at all.
 
Thanks to all for the complements a little more info I built the screen area to be 4'x4' with a front basket that sticks out 8" and the legs are 3' tall. I can't wait to really sit down on the bench and plink with the 22 and not have shells all over the yard.
 
The problem here is wind. Might wanna use different screen material.
 
I built a little frame about 12" square that sits on a small wooden base. I took an old laundry bag (military people know what that is!) and attached it to the square frame with those springy paper clip things. I set it to the side on the bench and it works great.

Cost me nothing... other than the 20 years in the Navy for the laundry bag. :)

Very nice. That picture looks like a demo of a photography class using a blue lens filter.
If the wind is a problem, you can use a fishing net with larger netting or even them laundry bags stitched together.
 
Should work nicely.. Loosely hung netting absorbs the energy and should slide down to your catcher. May want to add a shower curtain ring toward the bottom to keep the wind from wiping the netting and dump your caught brass. 1 on each side so it want creep up is all that is needed. If you can figure a way to funnel the brass to a bucket would be nice. Then you want even have to handle the brass when your ready to leave. But in any case not chasing brass is a BIG PLUS.

A standard pool skimmer attached to a small piece of 4x4 an sat on the bench near the action works good also. I did this for years and now they sell them on the market.
