I'm looking for a holster for a P226 MK25. I wanted to get the factory Sig P226 paddle holster (http://sigsauer.com/SigStore/p226-paddle-holster-244.aspx) as it locks the gun into place and is only removed by pressing the side button, and I really like that design. Unfortunately, according to Sig's website, "The P226R MK25 has a M1913 picatinny rail and does not fit the current holsters. The rail is flat similar to the Combat models. No further info is available at this time to whether we will be producing a holster."
Does anyone know of a better option, or am I just screwed and SOL?

Thanks but I couldn't find anything that was listed for the MK25 model of the P226. I emailed Blackhawk customer support to inquire with them.

Does anyone else have any ideas? I feel like no one will even see this thread since it got moved and many people don't view this category since it's hidden away (only 7 viewing vs 55 currently viewing in Firearms Accessories).

I'm not much of a Sig guy, so I'm not that familiar with the Mk 25 version. However, I do have a pretty good handle on who the holster makers are.

Do you really want that type of holster with the push button release, or is that just something you happened to see? If you want that type of release, other than that iTac holster offer by Sig and the Blackhawk previously mentioned, those are the only two I can think of with that type of lock/release.

You may want to try Top Gun Supply. They carry the iTac line and have a pretty good reputation as Sig-o-files.

If it's just a kydex holster you want, then Blade-Tech, Comp-Tac, Garrett, and Raven are the top places to look. If this Mk 25 is much different than a typical P226 you'll most likely need to call them and ask about that model specifically.

Blade-Tech http://www.blade-tech.com/home.php

Comp-Tac http://www.comp-tac.com/

Garrett Industries http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce.com/

Raven Concealment http://www.ravenconcealment.com/

If you want leather, there are other options.

Thanks. I assume that a holster for a P226 Combat would have to also fit the MK25 since they both have the M1913 picatinny rail? Am I correct?

Sorry, like I said, I'm not a Sig guy. I know the basic models, but the hair splitting between the fine details is beyond my knowledge base. If you have a question about compatibility, it really is best to call the holster maker, the retailer, or Sig, unless we get a "Sig guy" to chime in.

Forum moderator 9mmepiphany is one of the guys I usually look to for Sig info on this forum. If he doesn't find this thread you may want to send him a PM and ask him.

OK, doing my on-line Sig research shows the

Sig P226 Mk25

Sig P226 Combat
http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p226-combat.aspx

They do look like they have the same rail which is different from the standard railed Sig P226R, which by the way is really listed on the Sig site simply as the P226, which even a non-Sig guy like me would know shouldn't have a rail at all. The P226R is really the standard railed Sig. Are we all confused yet?

However, in my reading on the Mk 25, even though the rail looks exactly like the rail on the Combat, they don't say it is a M1913 rail.

I'd have to call somebody to make sure.

Yes, it is true that the SIG 226 Mk25 and Combat models both share the M1913 rail (or at least very close) which is flat bottomed and a bit wider than the accessory rail on most of their other 226R models.

I doubt that there are any holster makers currently offering a specific holster for the Mk25...it is too new...unless you go with a custom holster. I'm not a personal fan of accessory rails, so I don't have a lot of hands on knowledge. However, I will mention that certain plastic holsters have some extra room in them, under the dust cover, that may work for you.

My first thought would be to check out the Blackhawk CQC Serpa. The one I've used a lot, with a 226ST and 220ST seems to have enough room to accommodate a wider dustcover. You might also check out the Safariland offerings, both the SLS (rotating hood) and the ALS (ejection port block) retention holsters might work. In either case, a call to CS might help...I don't think they'll really be sure either (it is a pretty subtle difference)...but, a better idea would be to go to a store and try them out.

As a fallback plan, you could look at holsters designed to carry the gun with a weapon light attached...they'd have more room to accommodate the light attachment.

I really like Tom and Michelle at Top Gun Supply and have only had positive experiences doing business with them...they are my default recommendation for SIG parts...but I think there are better choices for holsters than the iTac line

Yeah both the 226 Combat and 226 MK25 both have M1913 rails. For some reason Sig forgot to mention this on the products page of the MK25, but they do mention it here http://sigsauer.com/mk25/. I've emailed Top Gun supply, Blade-Tech, Comp-Tac, Garrett, and Raven to see if they have something that'll work.

9mmepiphany, why don't you prefer the iTac line? What would you prefer instead?

I think they are a cheap holster, though since they are not closely fitted to a pistol, they may work for your needs. Like the Blackhawk Serpa line, most of the cost of the holster is tied up in the retention device. If you need that function that's probably good, but as a concealed holster, neither product conceals very well, as a range holster, why do you need a retention device on a range holster.

There certainly is a user for this style of holster, such as military/law enforcement that need a retention device or for those that may choose to open carry.

The other kydex products (and I don't think either iTac or Blackhawk are really kydex) will be fitted much closer to your pistol, and be better constructed of better materials. These holster will be better products for range or conceal carry use. Though only you can decide if they are really better for your needs.

Here in Illinois where I currently live the right is denied to carry concealed, so that is not an option. I'm just looking for something on the range or when out on the property to keep it secured, that's why I like the types that lock it into place.

9mmepiphany, why don't you prefer the iTac line? What would you prefer instead?

If you are going with a holster that has it's tension released by using the trigger finger, I prefer the Blackhawk Serpa to to iTac.

The release on the iTac is round and folks are used to pushing round buttons. The problem with that is that we then like to release that button. If you don't time it correctly, you'll release too soon and the lock will re-engage before you have withdrawn the trigger guard far enough to clear it.

The release on the Serpa is a paddle. You aren't supposed to push it in, you're supposed to apply pressure to it by laying your finger along the frame as you would when drawing correctly. The current generation even has a groove in the holster body to allow your finger to slide out as your gun is withdrawn...leaving your finger correctly along the frame.

The Safariland holsters, the SLS and AlS, are released via thumb pressure. The SLS releases with forward pressure, the ALS releases with rearward pressure. I prefer the SLS as I'm used to releasing a thumb break and it uses the same motion...even though it takes an extra step to secure the pistol ion the holster when reholstering

the MK25 should fit in our holster. Let me know if you want to try, we offer 100% guarantee, if not you are only out the return shipping. Due to the newness of the MK25, i have not had a chance to test/verify yet

So far I've emailed the following places and this was there response:

Garrett: Yes. "Any of our holsters can be had for the Sig 226 MK25."
Comp-Tac: No. "We're currently unable to custom make a holster for that firearm"
Raven: No. "We do not offer a holster for that Sig variant as of this moment."
Top Gun supply: No. "No, we don't for exactly the reason you describe. Sorry."
Blackhawk!: no response yet.
Blade-Tech: no response yet. Emailed twice within 2 weeks...

I figured that it was safe to assume that a holster for the P226 Combat would also support the MK25 since they both have a picatinny rail and are pretty much identical to one another (with the exception of the color, anchor, and maybe some internals) but I'm having an equally difficult time finding a holster for the 226 Combat version:(

I have a Garrett Silent Thunder. It is a great holster and they have an excellent reputation for customer service.

I have both leather and kydex holsters, but leather lined kydex is really something that must be experienced to appreciate.

This is the reason I decided to wait on a 226 TAC-OPs; holster options suck.

Additionally, the rail has slightly changed for the new models. I bought an old school 226, w/o rail, and it fits into my Safari SLS I had for an old duty pistol-the FNP-45. It's a little loose but it works just fine.

You're going to have to get into a holster pile and just try some on the MK.

While Garrett holsters are very nice, I don't feel that inclined to spend $90+ on a holster that I won't be carrying and will just be using when out on the property. As a tax paying, law abiding citizen who honors the laws of this country, I can't legally carry a concealed handgun here in Illinois (even though all the criminals carry guns on them, but that's a different discussion). I've heard that Blade-Tech may have a solution, but from browsing their website I wasn't able to find anything specifically listed for the MK25 or P226 Combat. I've emailed them multiple times in the last 3 weeks and haven't gotten a response yet, so I'll just take my business to Walmart and get a cheap nylon holster. I'm giving up at this point.

If you are just looking for something to wear on the property an easy answer is the Bianchi UM-84. The interior structure molds to your gun and it should accommodate the wider rail.

I got mine...quite a while back...from CDNN for < $12. I got mine for a Beretta M9, but my 226 and 226R both fit fine

I'm primarily a 1911 guy, but I hear this argument often. The thing that always get's pointed out is, remember you have a $1,000 pistol and you're concerned about paying $90 holster to protect it?

Of course, as 9mmepiphany said, those Bianchi holsters, if they have the flap, should be pretty cheap, but should provide good protection and security. I've seen a lot of nylon holsters that are sold in some gun shops and big box stores, and they all lack the structure and security I'd like to have to make sure my $1,000 pistol doesn't fall out.

Boooooo:(

I'll probably end up just buying a cheapass nylon Blackawk holster from Walmart:banghead:
The one made in PRC with magazine pouch in front designed for air pistol (sold under Crossman? brand) should fit that gun nicely. Available at certain Walmarts for $7.99 if I remember correctly.
