I was curious to find out about different companies that advertise that they are made in made in America, I wanted to know where they got their steel. Below is exactly the replies I got and from whom:
Visalia Safe Company "We are proud to tell you that our safes are manufactured in Exeter,Ca., and our steel is purchased from a company, also in Ca., who tells us that their steel is purchased in this country. "
Liberty Safe Company "We only buy steel from USA Companies."
Summit Safe Company "Thank you for your question. Most of the steel we use is made in the USA. Once in awhile we use steel made in Canada. Technically this is American made steel. (Canada and Mexico are part of the American continent). Usually when people ask this question they want to know if it is made in the United States. You only ask about the steel however, in the interest of being honest some of the parts we use are imported. For example the S & G locks we use are imported. I don't know of anyone that is making their locks in the USA anymore. Some of our plated parts are also imported. Our Summit Denali is made in a plant in Utah. Our Summit Rainier and Teton models are made in a Mexico plant. Again these are made in America but not the United States. The steel we use in the Mexico plant is made in the USA or a little of it comes from Canada."
Homeland Safe Company "Anyone who is telling you they use "American steel" is lying to you. There is no such thing as American steel. The US has not produced steel for over 30 years. The company you are talking about most likely gets their safes from China. Our steel is from Canada and Germany. They make the best steel."
Brown Safe Company "All of our safes are manufactured here at our facility in San Diego, our steel is sourced from U.S. suppliers with origins domestically and internationally. "
AMSEC "Since steel is a commodity, it is purchased on the open market like most other commodities. All of our steel suppliers are US based distributors,
so almost all of their steel comes from domestic suppliers. However,
since we purchase millions of pounds of steel per year, there is still a
possibility that one of our steel suppliers might use a load of steel from
a foreign source on a rare occasion. "
Sportsman Steel Safe Company "In regards to your question that I received via email. Yes the safes we make here in Long Beach CA. are made with US Steel."
Graffunder - "We purchase steel from American companies & distributors. They tell us it's
made in the USA. Hopefully they're truthful. If you have questions regarding our security products - please contact us, "
My intention was to draw attention to the fact that some companies although they say they are made in america, they may not be entirely and that just by saying made in america can mean anywhere on the continent as one company so deftly pointed out. I hope this stirs some educated discussion.
