Gun Owners, Democrats or Republicans or?

I don't think the problem is republicans or Democrats, I think the problem is both. The "two party system" is killing us. I can't vote one way or the other or I loose civil liberties no matter who wins.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference. Not all Democrats are antigun and not all Republicans are progun. Vermont is Democratic, a few even say socialist and they don't need a permit to carry there. NJ has a Republican Governor and has come out against CCW.

Who cares what I think or what my political persuasion is, our Governor is a Democrat and he has signed progun legislation into law. I am not a Democrat but I voted for him...I don't think it really matters, just vote for those who will preserve in what you believe.

Since this is more political than firearms related. I think the mods will close this thread...

What does one's party affiliation, or lack thereof, have to do with firearms, pray tell? Don't see Independents listed in the poll, either.

Smaller government
Less regulation
2nd amendment rights
Strong defense

I also want:
Women's right to choose
Gay rights equality
To stop unnecessary (in my view) wars.

The whole "republicans are pro-gun and Democrats are anti-gun" generalization is something that has come to fruition in the last 15 or so years.

If you look up until the mid to late 1980s, you had anti gun republicans. Reagan, the scion of conservatism, banned carry of guns in national parks, signed a ban on new manufacture of machine guns, and even lent vocal support to the 1994 assault weapons ban. Bush Sr, signed the 1989 import ban on assault weapons. That's not to say the alternatives to these men would have made things any better. These men were products of their political climates and the political climate of the 1980s and early 90s was all about gun control.

In contrast, pre-Clinton, you had many pro-gun southern Democrats. If you watch the video of the house vote for the 86 ban, you'll see southern Democrats standing up for gun rights.

I'm neither Republicrat or Demican. I'm not a Libertarian, Greener, Socialist, etc.

I AM an American. I AM a Veteran. I AM a free thinker. I associate with no political party, because IMO they are all corrupt.

Sadly, we are forced into a choice between the lesser of two evils most times, thanks to the way our elections have been tainted. And, if those in the electoral college don't agree with your vote (or the bribe is large enough), they can and do vote against what their constituents want because it doesn't fit the agenda of their party. For example, Louisiana voters selected Santorum...he got 8 votes...Romney got 5 for coming in 2nd...Louisiana has 48 delegates, so that means 35 will vote how they want or are told, basically nullifying the will of its residents.

I do want smaller government as far as regulation goes, but don't believe in the current healthcare system at all, so... I can't sum up anything without going less than high road.

I think that may be a bit of a misnomer.

I'm a Libertarian and am:
Pro-Life
Against Homosexual "Marriage"

Abortion is murder, meaning that it should be dealt with at the state level. (Because it's a crime)

Homosexual unions cannot be a "marriage," but I don't think the state has the right to define/redefine the term. It is a function of the church, not the state.

This may seem strange to some people, but it is authoritarian to use the federal government to do your bidding when it has neither the right, nor ability. And libertarians are not "liberal Republicans."

I picked Socialist (partly because it looked lonely). Really I end up so far to left that I am coming up on the right of the right, but there wasn't an option for "fascist".

*Do* bear in mind that believeing that the goverment (at some level) should provide basic services like Fire Dept, Police, Sanitation, etc., is a 'socialist' idea, and that it is not by default anti-gun (see Switzerland, Israel).

Generally, when it comes to voting, I am all over the ballot- they are all thieves and liars (expect Ron Paul- he's just crazy).

We don't do politics here.
