You win some and lose some! Such is life.

Small pistol primers disappeared in my area about a month ago. I looked at Sportsmans Warehouse today and three lgs's and they are just not there. IIRC, sp primers were the first thing to dry up during our last Obamanation.

I called my local Sportsman's Warehouse and asked about small pistol magnum primers and the guy just laughed...

try powder valley. seem to be pretty reliable for bulk orders

I know sales of everything are way up but I hope recent events are not causing people to buy and hord like a few years ago.

I had the same experience several weeks ago, no 9mm pills anywhere in the metro area. A few weeks later, all back in stock and still rolling strong. Empty shelves happen.

You better get used to the Out Of Stock signs. The economy is so poor these days the "just in time" method of stocking the shelves will catch up with those that are not prepared unlike those that store their components ahead of time AT HOME.

Yeah, even back in March or so I had trouble finding brass in .30-06 and .308 at my local Bass Pro Shop...either Remmy or Win.

All the other chamberings were there...even .223!

Thinking that the sky is falling is going to lead to hoarding. Brass is always hit or miss. The manufacturers make it in runs. It's not a constant supply. There is always an abundance of once fired for most calibers. There are plenty of primers both online and in stores. Your area might be out of some types. But they are out there to be had. These threads died down over the last few months. I knew they would be back after last weeks events.

It is called "Just in time" but it is actually "Just too late"!

Even Wally World in my parts can't, or won't, keep their shelves stocked.

There is no "free" lunch and somebody will eventually have to pay for the cost, much of it by our children and grandchildren ... sad but true ... so VOTE!

Due to the economy, this change in practice may be the evolution of retail business.

I used to buy reloading components to last me 2-3 years. Since 2008, I have steadily stocked up on reloading components whenever I saw good sales/promotions to last me 5-7 years now. I am using up primers I bought when they were $16-$20/1000 at Powder Valley/gun shows (Tula/Winchester/CCI). It wiped out our tax refund that year against wife's objections buying up bullets/primers but she is happy now.

"Look for deals and buy in bulk". Of course, these days a 'deal' could be defined as 'in stock'. I always try to keep a little extra money on hand so that I can take advantage of deals when I run into them.

look on craigslist for reloading brass. I picked up 2200 cases for 80 bucks (9mm, 40, 44mag)

I think most people keep an eye on their local retailers for items they need and if they happen to be lucky enough to find an item on the shelf they buy a supply that will last them for awhile. I don't think it has anything to do with hording. Others make jokes about the supply situation but they are usually the first to start complaining when they can't find an item they really want. The smart ones plan ahead. BW

hehe. You all are funny. I have plenty of everything and I shoot 1,000 a month. hehe. Stop being cheap when things are readily available and BUY ENOUGH. hehe.

Unlike long ago there is rarely more than a 1 days stock of anything in the stores. Just think of what happens to the local food market when the weatherman predicts a few inches of snow. The shelves are empty within hours.

Just a warning people, if you need it buy enough to last a while because you can only depend upon yourself.

I realize this thread is about reloading components but there is another shortage that is going to happen this fall. The corn crop in Iowa and Illinois is failing and the retail prices of corn and other farm products are going to go really high in the coming months. I feed about 160 pounds of corn a month and about 80 pounds of sunflower seeds a month to my deer, squirrels, rabbits and birds and have been stocking more for the coming months. BW

Already seeing the food prices climb. Predictions have been at least a 33% cost increase in corn...
