Loading .308 Win, Using Hornady 168gr BTHP. The bullet tip is slightly crushed after going through the seating die. These are hollow point bullets with a tip that measures only .080
The die is from Redding. Other bullets with larger tips are OK. I have contacted Hornady, but got no response. Could there be a special die for these bullets?

I suspect the shape of the Hornady bullet does not match well with the Redding seater.

Contact Redding and see if they have a different seater more suitable for the Hornady bullet.

The seater should push on the ogive of the rifle bullet not the tip.

If you have access to a lathe, you may be able to modify the seater yourself so that it does not contact the tip. (But a get a spare first.)

Nothing wrong with the seating die.

It's the seating stem inside the die that doesn't fit the bullet you are using.

Call Redding and I'm reasonably sure they can fix ya right up with the correct seating stem.

Very Low Drag.

Typically, low drag bullets are stretched out; longer, less pronounced transitions in profile. It sounds like the tip of your bullet is bottoming out in the seater stem before the 'ring' hits the sides of the bullet. Call Redding to confirm before buying parts.

Take the seating stem out of the die, get your drill and a bit just a smidgen smaller than the bullet tip, drill out the center of the seating stem, just enough to remove some metal, all taken care of. I did this on a RCBS die when I was crushing the tips, but no more!!
