I have to disagree. There is nothing cooking right now, and you start bugging your reps about gun rights prematurely, they may get burned out on the subject before it becomes pertinent. When legislation comes up, start writing. When Comrade Obama nominates a new justice, start writing--to the Senate. It is the Senate who confirms SC justices, and the Senate is still majority Democrat, so it won't really matter. Only 12 times in 235 years has a nominee not been confirmed. Just pray for the health of the five, and for Alzheimer's for the other four.

Agreed. It will be most pertinent when the time comes for a SCOTUS appointment.

The President can propose any gun controll he'd like the congress is divided so it's unlikely that anything will get thru. In fact that's my hope for the next four years that the house and senate can't agree on anything.

With this point I agree 100%. Bad news is coming. Besides Comrade Obama, who is on record saying that no citizen should be allowed to own a handgun, we have Silly Hillary, who will be back helping the UN with its gun ban agenda. So far, the worst done by BO and Co have been done behind the scenes (barring reimport of M1 Garands, Fast and Furious, and others), and they are likely to continue that. With luck, BO will do something even more impeachment-worthy and be taken out of office.

I only suggest holding off on your congressman until you have something specific to write about. Fortunately, my congressman (7th District, Texas, Republican John Culberson, just reelected) is conservative and pro-second amendment. On issues that matter (illegal immigration, taxes, deficit spending, etc.), I usually hear his position in his emailings before I even have a chance to contact him. Our continuing Senator John Cornyn is a windsock, so is currently in line with us conservatives. The newly elected Senator Ted Cruz looks good if he is half what he campaigned on.

I'm sure that an hour from now (9am central time), there will be the first round of panic buyers at my friendly local gun shop. I read a while back that Glock doubled production for the U.S. months ago in anticipation of this day. I have to confess: I'm thinking harder about that G32 (.357Sig) this morning myself, as well as another half dozen 30-rd AR mags and another 1,000 rds of 5.56. The safe is already full of .45.

Ok. Everybody take a deep breath and release it. Now to some cold hard facts.

1. The U.S. House still retains a Republican majority so no anti gun bill will pass without their approval.

2. The U.S. Senate had 44 Republicans when I went to bed last night and they still probably have that many this morning. Remember now if an issue doesnt have 60 votes in the Senate nothing happens. So we are covered there also.

3. As far as the Supreme Court goes I doubt that any of the Justices that support our view will step down by choice. On the otherhand a liberal one may step down but if that happens the status quo doesnt change.


Now what you really need to do is to support those who will be up for re-election 2 years from now. If your present rep supports the Second Amendment then go visit and offer your dupport now. Offer your time and resources for the next election.
If your present rep doesnt support us try to convince them and if that fails you have 2 years to find one who will and lay the groundwork to get them elected.

Just dont go all " chicken little" over Romenys loss. It just makes us look like a bunch of loons. So start preparing for the 2014 off year elections to ensure those that support the Second Amendment either stay in office or are elected to office. Its our battle to loose.

I laid out a very successful method to maintain our Rights and I get attacked over my writing abilities. Well I do the best I can with fat fingers on this small smartphone and dometimes I miss things. So sue me. Also at what point as adults do we start behaving as adults. Last I checked PRESIDENTS don't pass laws, that would be the LEGISLATIVE branch that can do that. And being that they would still like to be re-elected I'm not worried at all.

For letter writing the main thing is to be alert and when legitimate issues rear up their ugly heads to respond. The biggest dangers will new rulings by the ATF and these governmental entities that control imports. Others include Presidential executive orders and action by the us product consumer safety commision which right now does not do guns and ammo. Iin other words the non-elected branches of government will be our biggest concern. I recommend paying a lot of attention to the alerts from the NRA which are usually most important and do as they request relative to contacting your elected and unelected officials.

What to do if you have a rep who is not a 2nd Amendment supporter.

1. Talk to them.

2. Form a core group of supporters.

3. Read up on your state election laws

4. Start looking for a replacement. Best is a middle of the road person for all issues except for the second amendment and there you want a die hard supporter. Easier to elect.

5. Begin laying the groundwork for the 2014 election.

6. Execute your plan.

Have you ever heard of an Executive Order? He stated himself in the first debate that he plans to seek a semi-auto ban on ALL rifles and pistols. Being a lame duck, he won't need the Legislative branch to enact his will, nor does he have to worry about re-election. All he has to do is pen out an Executive Order and it's done. There will be nothing that you, nor the NRA will be able to do about it until he leaves office. Write away if you must. I don't see the point to it. He's already telegraphed his next move. This will be Clinton part II. Sorry to be a negative Nelly, I'm just being realistic.

Cactus Jack, you are exactly right. This president has done--even in his first term--more EO's to do what should be in the Congress' arena than I would have imagined. Did the Congress block the reimporting of M1 Garand rifles from Korea? Did the Congress authorize Fast and Furious? Did the Congress get on board with the UN's [temporarily on hold] gun ban?

The greatest risk of all is that Justices Scalia and Kennedy will reach 80 years old during this president's second term. Only one need be replaced with another gun-hating liberal judge for Heller and McDonald to be at risk of reversal with the next case the SC may select. Only 12 times in 230 years has the Senate not confirmed an appointment to the SC. Only 51 Senators are required to affirm an appointment, and we have 56 Democrat Senators, not to mention a half dozen or so closet liberals on the Republican side of the aisle. Once the SC is 5/4 liberal, the 2nd amendment can be rendered irrelevant within just a few years.

I'm not going to bug my congressman just yet, but I am going to be watching for sales on 5.56mm and .45acp ammo, as well as 30-round mags--plus maybe even a 60-round AR mag (as an investment). I'm thinking of moving up my timetable on purchase of a .357Sig handgun, too. And maybe it's time for that AR varmint rifle and Marlin 336 (if I can find a pre-Freedom Group model).

The administration has released approximately 5% of the F&F documents requested by the House. I have no access to even that 5%, much less the remaining 95%, but ask yourself this: Is it possible that an operation like Fast & Furious could have been planned and executed without the knowledge and approval of the President and Attorney General?

The documents which were available to the Inspector General only excluded ones which were covered by executive privilege, a greater amount than was released to the House. In that report, it was revealed how the local offices drove it.

In the emails uncovered by the House proceedings, Holder asked subordinates whether gun walking was being performed. The answer that he got back was a "no".

So yes, it is possible, and all of the current evidence indicates as such.

Congress didn't pass Obama's pseudo-Amnesty, for one example. He did that by fiat, er, Executive Order.

And unless I've been misinformed, not 24 hours after the election Obama was calling for more talks on a United Nations gun control treaty. I've no doubt that Hillary's replacement will be every bit as anti-2A as her. IMO, time to start hammering the Senate - remind our friends how we feel about it, urge our enemies to see reason. Oh, and try to get a straight answer out of ones like NC's Kay Hagan who SAYS she supports the 2A, but VOTES like an Obama drone.

I foresee that Obama will twist the arms of his beloved EPA to declare that lead is deadly and outlaw it now, while primers and powder are declared as weapons of terrorists/mass-destruction and are hereby prohibited.

Door-to-door inspections to follow, after all your previous purchases are reviewed in detail. Just think of how many jobs can be created to follow this plan!
