Have a chance to buy a Randall...

While the author keeps on emphasizing that the rarity of the things makes them collectable, my opinion is “so what”. Used bookstores are filled with first editions of books that no one reads or collects. While Gunwriters Shilled a typhoon for the company, Randall did not last long and no Great Cowboy Outlaw, General, or Movie Actor used one long enough to create a market demand. The Bren 10 got so much visibility in Miami Vice that several companies have tried to bring that back, unfortunately for Randall, I don't remember seeing Don Johnson with a Randall.

Since then there have been lots of M1911’s by all sorts of different companies, so the loss of Randall hardly made any impact on the market.

For me, Randalls are curiosities. If you think the price is right, if the gun functions, fits well in your hand, you like the placement of the flippers and levers, and you think you can get parts if something breaks, go for it.

My buddy has one of the limited run Randalls as well, and I know someone who has the left handed version.

one buddy shoots his regularly, and it's a fine shooter. The other one lives in a box and gets taken out once a year or so to be looked at. He tried to sell it once, but his offers were nowhere near the book value. so he's hanging onto it in the hopes that it will keep gaining value. Which it has - judging by the book.

when it comes to price vs collectors value, it can be tricky. The trouble with collectors value on something - is finding a collector if your selling. The book may say it's a thousand dollar gun, but if the market will only bear $600 - then it's a $600 gun.

my .02 here so take it FWIW-

If you're a collector, then the price may be fair, but if you're just in the market for a shooter there are probably other choices available.

Not that I think the price is outrageous as is, but I think there are alot more people out there willing to pay $1100 for a colt than there are for a Randall.

$1100 on a LeMay...not bad, I'd personally go more to $7-800 range, but yeah - it'd come home w/me one way or another. Yeah - there's lots of .45's out there....just like there's lots of cars out there.

Just go out an' buy a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang - an' remember, there's LOTS of cars out there....

This is an all stainless construction but the slide and frame were of different SS to limit galling. This model was only ~245 made. Any info would be appreciated.
