Laser sights?

If you actually want the most dependable laser sight on the market that will be visible out at 4-600 yards, you are talking several thousand dollars.

Also, for you to zero it at say, 400 yards, it will be wildly inaccurate at most any range from 0-350 yards....

You really need to understand a rifle bullets trajectory before you start thinking about using any laser at 400-600 yards.

If you could see it at 600 yards, and you did sight it in at that distance?

You would miss everything between here and there, then miss some more at anything past that distance.

Unless you are shooting a particle beam weapon?
A laser can only be sighted in at one distance.

Then the bullet path will cross the laser beam twice.
Once on the way up, and once on the way back down.

You can't see a Crimson Trace red laser at 25 yards in bright sunlight.
And they are as good as is legal under U.S. law.

I have no idea how far you can see one with night vision.

Green lasers burn through battery's faster then you can buy them according to what I have heard.

IMO: A laser isn't an "edge" for rifle shooting, unless it is a laser designator used for calling in smart bombs on target.

There really aren't any regulations on lasers as far as ownership. Use is another matter, though. You can purchase (with no restrictions) a 2 watt handheld laser that is powerful enough to ignite materials and cut things, but if you burn someone with it, it's definitely an assault crime. Shine it in the window of an airliner, very serious federal crime (and yes, there are production, hand-held blue and green lasers that will project more than 40 miles)

Pretty much. Blue and violet are even worse. Much more intense beams, thus consume more power.

I have a Zbolt BTMK-2S that I acquired a couple years ago. About as big around as a ball point pen and slightly longer than one. Green laser that runs on 2AAA, played around with it last night and was visible for at least 200 meters at night. Holds a zero well if mounted correctly. Runs between $125 and 200 which isn't bad compared to 400+ when it first came out.

+1 The Zbolt is a decent product.

Our knowledge is primarily IR lasers but Crimson Trace and LDI Laser Devices are great companies.

Miles and miles. A cheap laser pointer projects a spot visible more than 5 miles away on good night vision.
