S&W M&P Pro Warranty Work

I just got my M&P Pro 9mm five inch back from S&W for the third time for warranty work. This time the chamber looks like it was polished in addition to the feed ramp. S&W put a new extractor in the gun and also a new ejector.

I was having problems with failure to feed, failure to extract, and also throwing the empties at my face.

I shot 100 rounds of Fed 115 gr FMJ ammo and also 70 rds of Fed 9BP 115 gr Hi Shock Hollowpoints.

The gun did not have anymore failure to feeds or failure to extract cases.

I did have some empty cases thrown in my face with a two handed grip. Interestingly, one handed grips I generally get the brass going to the right. Hopefully this is just the extractor and the extractor spring breaking in. Any thoughts?

I hope to keep this up and that the gun will prove reliable because it is a sweet shooting gun and fits my hand a lot better than a Glock. I was hoping for Glock reliability but have not gotten it yet.

I'm sorry to hear you've had so many problems!
I've had my 9mm Pro for a couple of years now. I installed an Apex Competition kit, which brought the trigger pull down to 36 ounces and have broken one striker. When I broke the striker, I sent an email to S&W, and had a new, upgraded striker in about 2 days.
I haven't had any issues with FTF, of FTE. I KNOW that I SHOULD take out my extratcer for a good cleaning, but, it has never been out, and I know that getting the pin out is a PITA, so I just clean it with toothbrush, and compressed air.
99% of the ammo I've put through it has been my handloads, using once-fired, Winchester brass.

Not an uncommon observation. Using just one hand can sometimes cause folks to better lock their (only) wrist than when they're using 2 hands, and may unintentionally allow their strong shooting hand & wrist to "relax" a bit.

Using standard pressure 9mm ammunition loaded with lighter bullets (115gr), with any reduction in slide velocity (due to power levels running toward the bottom of the normal range), might also complicate ejection patterns when combined with a less-than-optimally-firm wrist lock.

As your recoil spring assembly wears in and is not as stiff (as when new) you might see this lessen, too.

You might try some 124gr or 147 loads and see what effect it may have on your ejection pattern.

Just some thoughts.

While a gun should not ejecet every round to the face, IME, you will still catch the occasional one no matter how well set up the gun is. It just happens. Two out of a hundred? Sure wouldnt be any concern to this ol' fat guy.

After a roughly a couple thousand rds my M&P 9mm began to exhibit FTEs. Just now removed the extractor out and there was enough crud to conceivably cause the problem. So, it is now clean and awaiting a range test to determine whether a new extractor is needed.

That is their second design (first was called Sigma) and the Glock is still better gun. Some gun company they are....... bested by "pot and pan" plastic container maker. Come to think that isn't really surprising the best shotgun in the world is put together by automotive engineer and best repeating rifle of all time was developed by rancher from Jamaica.

In your opinion Pablo.I have tried Glocks and in my opinion the m&p is the better gun.

My time as a LEO has proven that no gun is perfect not even a Glock. I can actually tell you more stories about broken Glocks in training then broken M&P's. I'm not saying it's because the M&P is so much better but mostly because there tend to be more Glocks floating around. What I'm trying to say is the Glock is no better or worse than the M&P... For the record my M&P has been shot A LOT (after all I get free ammo so why not) and I have had zero problems with it. I personally think the M&P is the better gun FOR ME because it feels way nicer in my hand then Glocks and I no longer have a sore hand after a long day of shooting like I did when I used a Glock.

Ran 3 mags thru today without a hiccup. Previously it would not get thru a mag. Will run ~100 rds at next IDPA match.
