Got a Henry for Christmas

I have some experience with the Henry H001 rifles. We use them in our youth shooting program. I can't say one bad thing about the Henry. Smooth, accurate and reliable. A great rifle.

Bought one a few years back for my son. It's one my favorites now...shoots shorts, longs, LR...never jams, more accurate than me. I can't think of a better gift. You got a good one (wife and rifle, both)!

Bought one for myself yesterday, on spur of the moment. Was out on a beer run visiting in-laws when wife suggested we check out a gun shop near their house.

The ARs were long gone, but they had some other nice stuff, such as Wilson Combat .45s and Volquartsen pistols.

They had a few engraved Big Boys, which upped the price on them considerably.

Then there was a stack of the regular Henry .22s for $299. I love .22s and don't have a lever gun. Well, I do now. Took one home.

Can't wait to shoot it.

First Henry I bought I kept for about 2 months, everytime my grandson came over to visit he eyed it so much I told him "When you can shoulder it then its yours". Over and over he tried and finally was able to slide it into his shoulder but that boy has already put close to 500 rds threw it. Had to have one for myself so picked up the one with the big loop lever. Cannot say anything negative against them. Your lucky to have a wife that will buy you guns.

Keep that one!
And the rifle, too.

I like my Henry guns, I have 3 lever guns (H001L, H001ML, H001TM) and one of their survival rifles.
I assume you have an H001 series in .22lr - it will take shorts as well, I highly recommend buying a few boxes of CCI CB shorts, you can stuff a whole bunch of them in the magazine tube and they're very quiet. I justify buying them for new shooters on their first range trip - but I run a lot of them myself for casual shooting because they're just plain fun.

I really, really enjoy mine. It always seems to wind up in the truck when I go shooting.

I got one when I was 14 and have been abusing it ever since. It is the Trapper model with the short barrel and big loop; it has been spun and slung open more times than John Wayne's '92. I snapped the plastic front sight band in an ill-fated jack rabbit ambush and Henry sent me a metal one and a new metal barrel band, just in case it broke in the future. I only just recently snapped the plastic mag follower whilst reloading it. I would call Henry about it too but I want to make a brass one as I am in gunsmithing school and think it would be a worth while exercise.

By the way, mine still shoots nickel size groups at 50yds. I have out shot many a shotgun on running rabbits with a red dot atop.

I have one in 22mag and love it. Darn thing goes to the range every time I go. You will love yours, they are so smooth and easy handling.

I have a H001 .22 LR. Really accurate, smooth, reliable, looks and feels good. Can't ask for much more.

Great, fun gun, simple to tear down, smooth as butter action and accurate as all heck.

Only complaint I had about them is the painted receiver. After a few years of use it got scratched and marred up to the point where I just stripped the black paint off. Actually think it's better looking lol



I know, scope is too high and wrong color but it's more for display and function when I'm teaching shooters about the different types of actions and Irons vs Optics then anything.

And you didn't shoot your eye out. A great Christmas indeed!

my dad got me a henry for christmas! best christmas in my 41 years, Christmas eve got an old but solid CVA hawkens .50 muzzle loader from a dear friend whos showing me the ropes with Black powder then Christmas day my dad surprises me with a new .22 Henry!

how hard was it to remove the paint on the receiver? wonder if you could cold blue it, etc after you get the paint off?

steel wool and Naptha, came right off. As long as cold blue works on aluminum I don't see why it wouldn't work

Cold blue doesn't work on aluminum, of course. Aluma-black does, though.
