I went to pick up my new Daniel Defense M4V7 tonight only to go home empty handed because my background check went from 'Further Review' to 'Delay' (apparently this is now automatic...so they can work on their oldest 'Delay' checks first.)

Worse, the agent couldn't give him a date (which I guess is the norm) as when they should get back to him. I purchased a firearm a couple of years ago, it went to further review as well, but was approved in 2min.

I wish these politicians would stop screwing around and deal with real issues.

I did overhear this dealer had a few Bushmasters, if anyone wants the name just PM me.

What does your delay have anything to do with politics.

GWARGHOUL is right. After 3 days your FFL may release your firearm to you.

smalls,

I ordered my firearm the Monday prior to the Sandy Hook event. If this panic hadn't started (caused by politicians threatening a new AWB), then my "Further Review" wouldn't have been dumped into the "Delay" queue:

As of 3:15pm, EST today, (12/26/2012) it has become necessary for the NICS Section to have our staff focus on the transactions in the delay queue so that we have an improved chance of reviewing those transactions before the expiration of the third business day. Therefore, you may notice a small change in how some of your transactions are handled as those requiring further review will not immediately be transferred on to the FBI NICS Section. Rather they will automatically be placed in delay and will be worked in the order received. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you but hope that you understand why this temporary change is being implemented.

Infidel4life11 My shop was on hold with nics for over 2hours about a week ago.
Two hours on hold with the FBI?:scrutiny:

I think they're feeding you a line. It is entirely possible that it took them two hours to get through, or that there was a period where they were on hold.....but highly unlikely that they listened to that wonderful wait music:barf: for two whole hours.

My wife and I were at the LGS on 22 December and everyone got to listen to the wonderful wait music. They had NICS on speaker. There were around 15 people in there all trying to buy an AR-15. All we were in there for was a mount for a scope, so we were in and out.
I asked later how long it took, I was told 45 minutes to an hour on hold. Everyone was put on the delay list.

Yep, I bought my DPMS .308 the day after and they had already started the long hold times. I was lucky. I usually got delayed (foreign born, two misdemeanors), but walked out 45 minutes later.

Sounds like an NICS deal, not politics. Also looks like its due to them being swamped by panic buyers.
And what caused the rash of panic buying? Oh yeah, that's right - politics and the announcement by an anti-gun president that new gun control measures will be announced in January, and the release of an INSANE gun control bill proposal by Feinstein. No, I'm sure politics has nothing at all to do with it.

This is why (side benefit) I have my conceal carry... No silly calls to wait on, just pick what I want and fill out the form and walk out the door. But that's my state so just give it a couple of days and you'll have your new toy.

are you in TX? I had a CHL in TX and buying a gun was great.... paper work and you are good to go....no wait

Here in WA you have to wait despite your license. And the license is a cheaply made paper with no photograph or fingerprint. looks extremely fake and cheap.

You should expect this since NICS is overloaded with requests since Sandy Hook. No NICS checks can be expected to go as smoothly or as quickly since the demand is up 4X+.

I have my ccw permit in CT. We still have to wait for a call to state police. I bought a PPS this morning and it took almost 90 minutes to get through. Busy signals for a long time. When the guy at my LGS did get through he had the person on the other end run 6 sales for 6 customers. Strike while the iron is hot, I guess.

chl in TX... the only way to do business... no wait, no fuss... cash and carry. thank you have a nice day.

Don't feel too bad, our checks here in Colorado run through CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigations), which are currently backlogged for more than a week... no one is getting a gun here quickly, even though we have no official "waiting period".

Feinstein tries to introduce an AWB literally every year. I don't remember any panic buying last year, or the year before that...
