Not a technical question, more of a legal question.

I own a Keltec P-11 in 9mm, which holds 10 rounds with the factory mag. Last year, I heard that used original equipment 5900 series Smith and Wesson 15 round mags would work in this gun if adapted properly, so I ordered one and it worked well (with modifications).

So well, in fact, that I ordered another one, which I received today. The new 15 round mag looks just like the previous one I ordered, HOWEVER, this new one has an inscription on the side that says:

"RESTRICTED: EXPORT, LAW ENFORCEMENT AND GOVERNMENT USE ONLY".......and it has a serial number on it.

Normally I wouldn't let all of this bother me, but with all the magazine ban craziness going on, I'm worried that if there's a 10 round limit imposed on handguns, that either this mag won't be grandfathered OR I might get in hot water if caught with it.

I'm presuming this used mag is from a government weapon made in the 1990's. Any opinions on whether it'll be a problem or not?? Thanks.

I tend to stay away from these sort of things. For me the "risk" just isn't worth it. Seems to me the warning on it is pretty clear.

Many vendors will sell what is legal for them and have a disclaimer saying it's up to the purchaser to be in compliance with local laws. And in the end, it's the responsibility of the owner/resident to be legal. Who knows, they may have inadvertently sold you the wrong item.

The magazine you received was marked as it was produced during the previous AWB. Perfectly legal to own in many places, don't know in your particular location.

If a new ban took effect, yours would be traceable via s/n to a date of manufacture not restricted by a theoretical future ban unless such a ban does not grandfather in high capacity magazines. In that case it would be up to the government to confiscate it or for you to turn it in.

Thanks for the input. I got it from Numrich, which is a very reputable vendor, but I obviously had to buy it sight unseen. Kind of surprised they didn't mention it. I think I might call them to see if they'll exchange it. If they won't, or if they're out of these mags, I'll probably just keep it and make the mods and play it by ear. It was only 15 bucks, I think. There may not even be a ban on +10 semi-auto pistol mags. Hard to telll.

Very good point! Hadn't thought of that. The serial # could actually be a saving grace rather than a hindrance.

Thanks, the laugh helped brighten my day.

As said, its an AWB era mag. During that time civilians only got 10-rounders and the hi-caps were only for LEO. After that law expired the warning becomes meaningless. I've got several Ruger P95 magazines marked as such and a whole bunch of AR15 mags on the market are still marked that way.

Thanks mgmorden and the rest. I'll keep the mag and not sweat it right now.
