Got my yearly gun show fix yeaterday.

I heard the same type of reports from my local show. I generally don't go to gunshows...certainly wouldn't pay money and wait in a line to get into a place where people are trying to sell me overpriced stuff.

I can see why some folks would go though...there is some entertainment value to be had.

It is a good time to sell.

900 for an sks? that is crazy, ive bought weatherby mk v rifles for less than that !

"Going" means someone actually bought it.

I had three tables at Dallas Market Hall last weekend.
While there were plenty of sellers ASKING those prices....nobody was buying $900 SKS's because there were plenty of $350-450 on tables and walking around. I'll bet six guys stopped by and asked me to buy their Tapcoed Mall Ninja Special SKS for $700.......uh no, not now, not ever.

Last Sunday at 4pm the dealers with the $1800 MAK90's and $2000 AR Frankenguns were boxing them up and taking them back home.

Depends on how many you already own. Everything is relative.

Re comments on the craziness at gun shows, the following has been mentioned previously.

People Are The Craziest Monkeys. Also, re prices mentioned, people all to willing to be ripped off likely will be, and they deserve being ripped off. P.T. Barnum, in the last analysis, the first analysis too, was all to right.

Sorry, someone who willingly pays a higher than normal price for a product has NOT been "ripped off". A rip off is selling fakes or counterfeits.

Higher than normal prices for firearms and ammunition has everything to do with supply and demand and absolutely nothing to do with gouging or rip offs.

I am seriously thinking of selling my SKS soon with the way these prices are going. It's just collecting dust.

Look right here on THR in the classifieds. Doesn't look like folks are having too much luck getting the astronomical prices they are asking either.

Dont expect a dogpile on your gun if you try to get too much. SKS's are much in evidence. A local shop got in about 20 last week, and they are only asking $450, and they are not getting many takers even at that price.

I'm in no rush, probably wouldn't consider it for a bit yet. Let prices rise. Every time I think about selling it and don't, prices go up more.

My old man paid less than $100 for it years ago.

A quick check of gunbroker shows factory Norinco SKS priced at $380-$550. Some are priced higher, but I don't see any bids.

I was just at a local gun show this weekend and sold an AK for 1000 and my AR for 3200 the cheepest ar they had there was 1700

Quite honestly, I haven't been to a gun show in a number of years. The last several I went to were disappointing, to say the least.

Gun shows used to be all about finding good deals on guns and ammunition. I'm not saying the proverbial "steal"...but if you had your eyes out for a certain gun or ammunition in quantity, you could find reasonable and competitive prices on a number of items at a gun show.

But the last several I went to years ago were anything but that. Used guns at just about new gun prices, or even higher (and I'm not talking about collectors or rare items). New guns more expensive than at LGSs. Ammunition I could do better at Walmart for, and so forth. And little, if any, wheeling and dealing going on. Part of the joy used to be in making a deal between the seller and the buyer.

I ran across a guy who had a stack of .22 Winchester Magnum. He was selling them for the SAME price I could get at local stores, without having to pay a door fee to get in. I told the guy if he could come down from that price just a little bit, I'd buy his whole stock. Didn't have to be a lot...just some token amount to make it worth my time. No dice, over a guaranteed sale of nearly 30 boxes.

I got real tired of paying a door charge for no deals or bad deals. I'm not saying people don't have to make a profit at these shows...by all means, they should. It just wasn't working out for me any more, so I quit going.

*sigh*

I view gunshows as paying $10 for the privilege of walking into your LGS. The only deals to be had are by other private individuals looking to get rid of something.

Not all that out of line if it was a Noveske, most were 2200-2600 around here before the craziness depending on the exact model.

Big difference between asking and selling prices, its the market than makes the selling prices.
