In many states, sound suppressors are available to the common man. If you are tiring of all the absence of guns and ammo, or worry about the futrure and supporting/enforcing the second ammendment, buy a suppressor and tax stamp while no one is trying to ban them. Quiet guns have their usefulness, too!
 
Ummmm, you can buy a transferrable assault rifle anytime you like. It isn't quite as easy as purchasing a sound suppressor, but the suppressor supply wasn't locked in 1986.

OTHO, you have to line up an hour before opening every Friday morning at the local Gander for a chance to purchase one of the 4 to 20 ARs they put out every Thursday night.
 
Just saying, while sitting on the money you WOULD have spent, you could be getting something MORE sophisticated that the gumment would prefer you did not have.......
 
I don't recommend anyone sit on their money or blow it on overpriced firearms.

I recommend everyone donate the amount of a few magazines or a firearm to the appropriate 2A organization fighting for our rights. That can be on the national level or on the state (I've done both), but it won't do you any good at all if we don't crush these Antis and send them back to their holes they crawled out of using the children of Sandy Hook for handholds.
 
To each their own. I hope you don't consider a suppressor an overpriced firearm. In my opinion, they go hand in hand with any other guns in usefulness, and are worth every penny (including the tax) that a person pays for them. I find a silent high powered rifle to be more useful than a semi-auto rifle.
 
Suppressors reduce the sound, but they don't make a rifle silent. I love them. They're great at enhancing the safety and enjoyment of shooting.

My new Ruger 22/45 LW will have one as will my and my wife's ARs (my wife suggested his and her's suppressors for our 20th wedding anniversary).
 
Not silent?

From 200-300 yards away, a subsonic rifle is probably not going to be heard before it hits its target, if at all. I have a .30 cal can on a .300 Whisper, and that little snap at ignition isn't too detectable even 50 yards away (depends on surroundings, of course), and the same can on a .300 Win mag reduces the sound to a .22 short at the muzzle, and you get the hypersonic crack out along the way, but the target will feel the bullet LONG before they hear the crack. From a tactical standpoint, when the oposition comes to take things away, they'll know where your semi auto rifle is being fired, but they may not know where you are using your suppressor. To me, that puts is value way above the semi auto rifle. Greg

I have permanent hearing damage (not all from firearms).

I'd recommend a suppressor to anyone who wants to shoot.

And by all means use hearing protection with your chain saw (which has a suppressor) your lawn mower (which has a suppressor) and your weed wacker.

A suppressor is nothing more than hearing protection, and it may not be enough.
 
I'll be getting a new .30-06 bolt action with a 6-24x50 scope this month. I do want to get a suppressor for it. I don't have any NFA items yet, but it seems a suppressor is the easiest way to get into NFA territory.

What is a good suppressor that could be used on both .30 caliber and .223?
