AR15 Troy Battle mags

I have three Troy Battle mags and they've all functioned fine and drop free from all four lowers I have. But I do like PMAGs and Lancers better.

They should be good to go. I like to consider these four as the best AR magazines on the market (I ignore HK mags due to $)

Magpul PMAG, 30 round (and possibly Gen3 20 round). I don't know that these are the best, but they are very good, and everybody knows about them, plus they have been known-good for years now, so they demand a premium. (which is why I haven't bought any for awhile, not worth the price premium these days IMO...I remember buying them for $10.42 shipped back in October!)

USGI 20 and 30 round, with 20 round being a bit more consistently reliable, and 30 rounders benefiting from Magpul anti-tilt followers. They are usually less expensive than the polymer mags, but less durable as well. *Not all aluminum mags are USGI mags. The better ones seem to be NHMTG, D&H, and OKay


Lancer L5 AWM. I recently picked up a fair number of these after a lot of reading and research. Haven't used them yet. The translucent/smoke ones are very cool. Great reputation, VERY tough. Steel feed lips.

Troy Battlemags. These should be pretty darn good magazines too.

I purchased 4 from Aim here recently. I really would have rather bought Pmags, but these seem to be a better value in this climate, I hope they turn out fine, I need to acquire some more mags, once things stabilize. Troy seems to be a solid company.

I've been using them since they first came out. So far great, no problems at all. They are my #2 choice behind M3 Pmags, and ahead of all non-Pmag options I've tried.

Yeah, well, they've been totally problem free in various competitions, with various rifles, and various ammo including Wolf and Silver Bear steel-cased. They aren't reputed to have any issues, even rarely, the way that Lancer and Tangodown ARC mags are (both of which have worked for me about 98% of the time, but not 100 - the Lancer AWM is too tight in some magwells, and the gen1 ARC has jamming issues if you use it in an upper WITHOUT M4 feedramps). I like the fish scales and slim, no-snag design. I just can't find anything to dislike, although I suspect the Pmags will be more durable with their bulkier design and dust cover to protect the feedlips.

Current Lancers should drop free from any magwell that's in spec. I've used L5AWMs in five different lowers with no problems. Same goes for the BattleMag and current PMAGs (early ones stuck in some magwells).

Was the drop free issue the only one with the Lancer mags?

That is my understanding

The only issue I personally had with the Lancers was the drop free issue. I recognize that lower has a tight magwell, but nearly all other mags I own drop free in it (the other exception is a TAPCO gen1, which is generally seen as an inferior mag).
