I won this Remington 03A3 a few days ago on an on-line auction. It looks like it still could be in original condition. I know it is hard to tell because the pictures aren't the greatest, but the finish on the parts looks right. I'll know more when the rifle arrives and I can get a better look at the parts.

Description was a bit sparse.

Remington 03A3 Unaltered 30.06Serial Number 3945454
Has original cleaning kit in stock.

Pretty. Hope you get a good barrel.

I like the O3A3 a lot. I've heard and read all the Mauser guys complaints about un needed parts and mods like magazine cut off and two piece firing pin and while they may be able to "tell a Mauser rifle from a javelin" I still likes the O3A3.

The straight stocks do bring back one bad memory.... WHen I started Highschool JROTC we had nice Garands, then my senior year we had M-14s and both worked though we removed the firing pin, extractor and ejector and associated springs from most though kept a batch for use by the after school "Counter Guerilla Organization" (what the army called small unit tactics clubs) with blanks and the occasional ball or AP ammo. Juast after I returned from service the Army replaced the county M-14s with 03A3s with straight stocks. I was there as they were uncrated and many appeared to have never been issued. I played with a few and went off for a summer of fun. Upon my return just before the school year started I dropped by to see the old Sargeants and the Colonel and one handed me one of the Springfields.....the army had sent "armorers" over the summer to ruin them. All had been turned into "parade rifles" with a bronze rod welded inside the barrel, firing pin hole welded shut and the magazine cutoff welded on so the bolt could not be removed......all 400+ of them. The stated excuse was concern that weather underground types or folks like them might steal JROTC rifles so they were made worthless......and this was 1976....

I worked most of a year for the supply officer as an "armorer" (more like a rifle mechanic) for the ROTC drill team. They had two sets of 03A3 rifles. One practice set and the chromed exhibition rifles. I did a lot of repairs on split/broken stocks and learned a lot about the Springfields.
A few years back I bought a CMP 03A3 that arrived with like new finish and matching stock. Since I wanted to use my custom fitted position stock, I sold the perfect condition military stock for close to 1/2 of what the whole rifle cost.

My new 03A3 arrived today and I just got back from my FFL where I looked it over.

All the small parts are blued. The bands, sling swivels and bolt are marked "R". The barrel is a 7/43 and measures "0" on the CMP muzzle gauge. Bore is shiny with sharp lands. I forgot to check whether it is a 2 or a 4 groove.

The stock has the Remington style band spring cut out. It has 4 small inspection stamps just forward of the trigger guard and a single proper size "P" stamp just aft of the trigger guard. I could find no other stamps on the stock other than those ("RA", "FJA", and crossed cannons) depicted in the pictures.

The stock is excellent condition with just a few small dents on the left side, near the magazine cut-off.

This looks very similar to an "unissued" condition 03A3 that I got several years ago.

I didn't have much time to go over it, so it is possible that I missed something. I'll post better pics when I pick it up in 10 days.

Yep, sounds right. All the small parts are blued because their production was subcontracted out. Reminds me of a guy I know who bought a parkerized bolt to replace the blued one on an 03-A3, because he wanted to make it "correct".

Ahh...I'll go ahead and post the other two and get it over with...it is like pulling off a bandaid...best to just give it a yank and be done with it :)

I finally got around to taking some pics of the 03A3 that I got a few months ago. Everything looks good...appears to be all original. Bore is a "0" on the CMP gauge, 4 groove dated 7-43. Lands look great. I can not find any re-arsenal stamp, not even the "OG" inspection stamp. Wood has a few minor dings. All the metal is stamped with an "R"

Nice - I'm in the market for one of those, or a 1917, but I'm too worried about getting junk if I buy online...

Good score!

I had a few of those and when I got an M1 garand and saw how there was hardly any recoil I sold the 03's. I am not recoil sensitive but the 03's kicked way beyond what any other 30-06 did. must be the stock design
