Posting availability of one pound (1 LB) containers of powder suggests that one might pay a HAZMAT fee for only one pound of powder. It might also suggest that the vendor would allow orders for more than one pound of the same powder, but that would be a greater price per pound than for a 4, 5, or 8 pounder.

Personally, I only look for offerings of the larger containers, mostly "8 LB". Anything else would have to be a local sale or a mail order, wherein I was lucky enough to pick a number of choices that were in stock and that would ship under the same cover (and fee).

That's true and 8 pounders sell out faster. But you can add multiple containers of 1/4/5/8 pounders to the order to better distribute the HazMat fee.

If you are buying one or few 1 pound containers of powder, LGS/gun shows may be better options if they have the powder in stock. I post availability of powders especially for those who do not have LGS nearby and have to order all their powders online.

Well, I guess I'm skeptical about how many would actually order one pounders. I have already made the suggestion to gunbot to allow filtering by container weight. The market would have to change, and a person would be quite lucky to find more than one powder in stock in one pounders to get them shipped at the same time for one fee. All the one pounder stuff is really just clutter for those who mail order. The exception would be where a person could be ordering primers and powder at the same time (not from Midway) and get it all in the same shipment, the primary objective being primers, which themselves are often problematic in terms of quantity per order, getting the most from a HAZMAT fee.

p.s. I appreciate your effort, not to mention fairness in support of Lee products.

I have been trying to find two powders to try for a while and not long ago ordered those two in one pound jugs and paid hazmat and shipping for only two pounds of powder. No telling how long it would be before I found them here or found them along with a 4 or 8 pounder of something I needed, and I was tired of waiting. Stupid? Maybe. Wasteful? Maybe. My choice? Yes.

A lot of people find one ponders useful for testing new loads. I ordered a few one pounders for some load test myself so thanks for the effort in this thread contributors. Please complain on another thread.

Picked up bullets. It was a typo. Says 365 on Cabella sticker and .356 on Berry's label. Measured bullet and indeed it's .356

Not sure if I want to return it back to store or what.

Local Cabellas (Hazelwood, MO) had CCI small pistol primers on shelf - $39.99/k and Winchester primers (not sure which ones) at $48.99/k

A lot of us appreciate the efforts... and like many will order a couple 1lb and Primers and Such..... ya have to, even ordering 5k primers dosent justify the hazmat....

ya dont agree... thats fine... but we all appreciate the efforts of bds and others and we all would appreciate the Positive feedback for those who do take the time to help us all out... they cater to everyone... not just YOU :cuss:

RealGun, I kinda had similar thoughts as I consolidated recent posts into one this morning (but then I hit the thread word count limit and had to spill over - who knew such existed?).

This thread started out as "any available reloading components and equipment for sale" thread when there was almost none around. Now that more and more components are available, as Walkalong noted, the posts are getting longer and probably more difficult to follow and look for desired components. I have already stopped posting certain reloading equipments as single stage presses as they are in stock everywhere. To reduce the size of postings, I will probably start posting lowest priced components only and add site links for the higher priced components.

As to HazMat issue with 1 pound powder containers, I will probably continue posting them until 8 pound containers become readily available. As many posted, some may add a few 1 lb containers of other powders to try along with their 8 lb container orders.

Thanks! I kinda took up this project as my "Pay it forward" and I needed to get several new reloaders set up with equipment and components. Yes, I am a Lee/RCBS/C-H fan who is also an admirer of Dillon/Hornady/Lyman/Redding.

As many posted, some may add a few 1 lb containers of other powders to try along with their 8 lb container orders.

Once I had located an 8 pounder (more-than-one pounder), I could then look around the vendor's site on my own and see what else was currently available to hitch a ride on the HAZMAT fee.

I emailed - they suggest to ship it back (at my expense) for refund. I asked about label - will see. If not - I will try to trade/sell it locally, no point in paying for return shipping.

Why no? If I'm paying a hazmat on 5000 primers, why not throw in a couple few 1 pounders? You dont have to pay on each item. Recob sold me 8 lbs of Unique for about 115.00 a while back. Paying 27 bucks wasnt so bad, and for the same fee I can throw in primers or a few 1 pounders I would like to try, that I normally wouldnt pay an extra 27 bucks on. I am more likely to try a one pounder on top of an order than throwing another 8 pounder in...

That's what I'm talkin' about! But 27 on a single pound? Only if I'm desperate! I can buy HP-38 locally for 30 a pound....way high, but cheaper than 18.00 + 27 bucks.

I do not believe that primers and powder can be shipped together.
Hazmat is applied per package, not complete orders.
So if you add powder to your primer order you will be hit with a Hazmat fee twice.

I think that's only true of vendors that ship from two different locations. An example is Midway USA, who does not warehouse gunpowder in their urban location. They take orders and then have it shipped from the remote wild west...Montana, Wyoming, I forget exactly.

addendum:

I believe Western Powders is where my Midway powder order came from, ordered a few years before I understood enough about how all this works. They're in Miles City, Montana, where I suppose it's safer to blow up a powder plant and warehouse.

I like ordering powder in 1# containers - if you read up on fire issues, 1# containers are less likely to start a fire. (They will melt down, but generally don't self ignite). Also, it makes it harder to accidently contaminate a huge jug of powder - if you accidently dump your dispenser of 231 into a jug of wsf, for example.. i know, it shouldnt ever happen, but for $2 a pound, i'd rather have little jugs. If I decide to load something different later, 1# jugs that are sealed still have value - 7#'s of your powder in an open jug.. i'd have to be desperate..
