Ruger 1911

I have no knowledge of the Ruger 1911 but I read a write up on "www.gunblastl.com" and they liked the weapon. I generally like anything from Ruger and have several of their guns.

I hope they are good... I picked up a Ruger sr1911 Commander a couple weeks back. I look foward to wringin it out but have not. The reviews I have seen have been positive...

That is a great price

Is it pics of the Breech face of the slide that isn't cut evenly that I've seen, I can't quite remember. If I'm right, check for that; other than that, looks like a great pistol.

I've been VERY happy with mine and I wound up at $800 OTD after fees & tax. At $650 I would buy a second one!

In my experience Ruger's customer service is A+ top drawer. Buy with confidence.

Rugers customer service is legendarily good. Thats a great price. I have one, and I straight up love mine. It's not a huge priority, but a commander will be joining it at some point.

I have about 2000 rounds through my SR1911, and no hick-ups so far. I bought mine for $650 OTD when they first came out (I didn't even KNOW that Ruger came out with a 1911, but I didn't wait around for someone else to find it!). Since then, I haven't seen one going for less than $750...and most right at $799.

I picked up one about a year ago for $679 at the LGS. It too was my first 1911, and I regularly shoot it. I find it to be accurate and fun to shoot, and it fires anything I load it with which are primarily handloads these days.

For extra magazines, I picked up a bunch of Colt 8 round flush-fit stainless steel magazines from MidwayUSA for about $19.00 each. My Ruger SR1911 has no problem using them, and they are a lot cheaper than the Ruger brand magazines.

That was going to be my next question. One is one my short list as soon as I can afford it. Was worried that Ruger was going to get proprietary on the mags.

Hvychev, that SR1911 is a great...repeat...great 1911. I've currently got both sizes: the 5 incher and the Commander length as well. I've shot Colts for 30+ years, all with after market Wilson tgt quality bbls., bushings, and some expensive gunsmithing, but those two Rugers are at least as good!

I particularly like the features, everything I want and no frivolous crap. Two mags furnished with either as well. The only "upgrade" I'd have added would have been a checkered front strap...and padnuh, that's it. Both will plant a 7 round magazine into sub-2" gps at 25 yds with my long time target load and 200 gr LSWC's. For stuffing into a back pack, canoe pack basket or toting on your hip in lousy weather, that SS construction is the way to go.

You've made a first rate purchase, Hvy, one that'll last you a lifetime as well...and you got it at a fantastic price.

The same SR1911 CMD after I've fitted a cpl of Colt Commander 9mm and .38 Super slides. The 22 lr slide is a Marvel 5" model, making it a true 4-caliber Commander now!

I agree with Rodfac; it is a GREAT gun, and in my opinion, the best value in a 1911 on the market at the present time. As mentioned, it has all the features I want in a 1911, and none that I don't want, such as forward slide serrations. Here is a good technical review of one of the 1st pistols to come out of the factory. Please note that some of the comments directed at some of the components may have already been corrected by Ruger. I have 2 of these guns also, and I can find no fault with either of them.

One of the criticisms of this gun I read most often are that the grip screws loosen up with shooting. I have already ordered 2 sets of slotted grip screws for mine that are a bit more user friendly than the fancy hex screws that come on the gun.

I'd snag it before someone else does.

Unless I am unaware if some variation out there, a 1911 mag is a 1911 mag. I have two Ruger mags, an ancient Colt mag, a mag from a Taurus 1911 and McCormick mag. All function well, which is all I care about.

To clarify, I did know about that variation. In my head I was referring to full size 1911's as opposed to other models.

I have long been a fan of the 1911, and the 45 APC. I am also a Ruger fan, and for many years, hoped they would bring out a 1911. I have one now, and am very happy with it. As for Ruger's customer service, don't know. I have about six Rugers, and have never needed their customer service.

Bud's price on the Ruger SR1911 45ACP 5" Stainless with Novak Sights is currently $829. What's up with that?

$649 is an excellent price! I paid just over $600 for my Ruger 1911 plus tax but I only got it at that price because I work at the gun shop where I bought it and I get to buy guns at just slightly over cost.

I've only had mine a few weeks now but so far I've put about 100 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of JHP through it and have had no malfunctions, it's accurate and solid. The only modification I've done to mine so far is replace the wood grips with some rubber ones but eventually I'm going to order some VZ Grips for it and I may even have it Cerakoted desert tan with black parts at some point.

Exactly right.

Three SR1911 pistols through my ownership... all bore the unfinished J-cut. Ruger called it 'within their spec'.

They are working hard to undo that, be patient. After refusing to complete the unfinished pistols that I sent them, they simply told me that finishing the breech work is not going to happen. An incomplete and uneven breech face is Ruger spec for the renowned 1911 pistol.

You have to either put your own hand to it or pay a gun smith to finish the SR1911 because they sell it 92% complete.

All that to say...


I love my SR1911.

Bud's price .... is currently $829. What's up with that?

The federal laws that would force them to price their products at someone's idea of "reasonable" have not been passed yet.

Mine also had the bad breech face. My smith fixed it for about $75 (I think), after Ruger refused to fix it.

This is a great gun at a great price, and right handsome to boot. (Oh Boy, my favorite!)
