New Illinois law

First, it's not a background check. It's a check to see if the buyers FOID card is still valid and not revoked.
Second, only the lost or stolen part of the law is effective immediately. The FOID card check doesn't go into effect until Jan 1, 2014.

It is different from an NCIS check~not saying I LIKE the thing. It may make for LOTS of mischief and potental problems. The un-intended consequences potential is HUGE for this if you role around a few scenarios of what individuals might face from this.

When calling in to check the validity of the FOID, it is likely that the FOID number is going the be required. This doesn't sound like it allows for much mischief. Sure, you might know lots of peoples names, but how many FOID numbers do you know to go with that?

I don't see that as being much different. Your still asking permission to sell your firearm.

I agree that it is just as annoying and just as much an infringement on rights, but misrepresenting something to make it sound worse than it is doesn't help our cause. What you said in the OP wasn't accurate and meleors was just pointing that out. He wasn't saying he agreed with the law.

...or ... time for us good folks in Illinois to take back our state from the Chicagoland idiots. Many states went through growing pains with new CCW laws. Yeah, ours will be a little more painful, but there's no point in throwing in the towel this early in the fight. If we all just give up and move somewhere else when things get a little bumpy, there eventually won't be anywhere else to move.

One more out of so many reasons I will never live in Illinois.
