My ky long rifle rifling is 1in66 its a traditions model and i am looking for bullets for it and i talk to traditions they said it was for round balls and it would shoot minie balls but how accurate would it be. round balls are next to impossible to find here so my only choice is a minie ball type or a sabots. I'm really thinking on getting a inlined and hanging my ky on the wall and use it for my civil war reenactment thanks

What caliber is your Kentucky rifle? One bullet you may consider is the Lee R.E.A.L. It is short so may work well in your rifle, however you must cast them yourself.

short minies shoot ok from long twist when you move them along. Round balls definitely will serve you better especially for hunting. Round balls are good for 100 yards at decent loads, and I'd concentrate on that. Lee minie with a thickened skirt can withstand heavy powder charges but don't do any better trajectory wise than a roundball... maybe worse actually.. but they definitely kill deer.

My experience with conical bullets and twist rates of 1:60 and slower is they fly like a football kicked for a field goal. They tumble. IF you get the ratio right, a conical like a minie will fly well from a slow twist like the Enfield rifle with repros having 1:78 that shoot very well. Better off using a patched, round ball and not having to worry.

Minds a 50 cal. I meant find here is nobody around here carrys any bullets but for the inlines. i just don't like to order stuff i live about 2hrs from dixie gun workd i might have get up there before long. anybody cast there own I've looked at some molds a buddy has one i don't know if its 50 or not thanks

My flintlock which I built with a Douglas premium 1 in 66 barrel (45 cal) shoots TC Maxiballs quite well. It is a round ball twist but does all right with the longer slug. Just try it, it might work for you. I have not had much luck with the REAL but that is probably just me.

You're gonna buy another rifle because you don't want to order online? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. Call Dixie and order yourself a few boxes of round balls. No big deal whatsoever.
Commercial roundballs are about $10-$12 for 100. Fancy sabots and powerbelts are $1 or more each. Shipping would only be a few dollars.
Here's a place that has them for $11 + $7 shipping. Less cost than the gas you spend driving a couple hours.

Try the conical YOUR barrel might like them. But overall like everyone said most slow twist barrel don't like conicals.
Forgot to mention that it took 100 gr of FFg Dupont to get those good groups with maxiballs (45 cal). That is almost fifty percent of the bullet weight in powder. 3 shots in 3" at 100 yards, flintlock, open sights, thirty years ago, better eyes.

245gr powerbelts shot good at 25-30 yards but after that, they wouldnt hit the target at 50 yards LOL, very poor grouping.
Loves 90gr 3f olde eynsford, .020" patch, .490" round ball and moose milk for patch lube.

I prefer the .018 - .020" patches in the traditions kentucky. The .015" just get shredded up to heck and back.
Moose milk can be made with Ballistol & water. 7 parts water to 1 part Ballistol. Shake to mix well and then lube your patches.

Two hours from Dixie Gun Works, In that area there are many muzzle loading clubs. Find one close by and get to know the members. With their experence and know how they can help you and save you money on buying different size balls and bullets. Myself alone have almost every size bullet mold and ball mold. I do have molds that cast bullets that will shoot in a 1/66 barrel. Good shooting.
