Taurus TCP

I don't own one but intend to pick one up soon. There are enough positive reviews online to take the chance on this one and it has something that most other similar pocket guns don't have, which is a last round hold open mechanism. They look to be pretty well made IMO. So far my luck with Taurus has been good so I'm not afraid to grab one.

It also looks like most of the negative reviews are from owners of early guns lots of manufacturers have issues when they release a new model.

I owned one. I sold it only because it had a colored frame that I couldn't warm up to. I would like to have another. I probably put 250 rounds through it with only one malfunction. It was far more accurate than one would expect.

Make sure the one you're looking at is not one of the early versions.

Oss you could have krylon'd it. Its only a Taurus Lol.

Seriously though, I love mine. It's been fantastic.

My Dad bought one last night a very reasonable price too.

I prefer the TCP to any of the other pocket .380's. It fits my hand better, even if it is the ugliest of the bunch. They are also made in the US since they don't have enough points to meet import requirements. The very early ones had some issues, anything made in the last few years should be good to go.

A friend of mine has one, and I've checked it out (but not fired it.) I was impressed with its "FFF" (fit, finish, and feel) more so than with any of the other polymer pocket .380 pistols.

It will be the one I get (minus the laser; don't really care for those on pocket-pistols) should I ever decide to upgrade from the .32ACP in pocket-class caliber.

If you like the price, particularly since it comes with another magazine (many people report scarcity of these), might as well go for it. I doubt you'll be disappointed, assuming you understand what these little guns are designed to do, and the limits of that design.

I have one and it has been flawless after the first couple boxes. It's more accurate than I thought it would be. I would recommend it without reservation. Your mileage may vary.

I used to have one and as far as pocket .380s go I think you can't get any better as far as features unless you want to pay twice as much for the Sig or Kahr. I sold it because I'm just not a 380 fan but it was flawless for the time I had it.

My daughter brought one.

She shot 6 rounds, said it hurt and didn't want to shoot it anymore. I said come on shoot 6 more to get use to it. She did, said it still hurt and doesn't want to keep the gun.

So I shoot 6 rounds. DANG! That thing hurts. I shoot 6 more. I'm done.

There is something about the way it twists when fired that causes the inside of the trigger guard to hit the finger.

Anyway for $300.00 you can a like new TCP with raspberry colored frame, two magazines, box, Ect., that has only been fired 24 times.

The only problem I have had with mine is a bad magazine which Taurus replaced immediately.

Personally the only micro 380 that I think is a better shooter is the P238.

You have to have a rubber grip for them. Bought my sister one. Got her the grip and a box of rounds. Not the most accurate thing but for such a small pistol it's hard to hit much past 20 feet. Oh yeah order a pinky drip extention for the magazine. Only $7 and thank me later...

Besure there is a C or a D in the serial number . Then note the model. Price can cover more than 80 dollars between the basic FS model with one mag and oxide finish to a SS model and Black finished SS model with 2 mags and a odd little bag holster. Other than that I don't use lasers so figure out the value your self.

I will say the tcp has the best trigger of any CC pistol and the two we have are great little micro pistols. One a 180 dollar FS the other a 260 dollar black SS

The $180 new price for mine made the decision easy.
I shot mine a bunch when I first got it and it always worked (accurate as well).
Now I shoot a magazine every few times I go to the range.
If a small gun is what the situation calls for the 738 is great bang for the buck.
I will however say that they are not much to look at.

They are fantastic and I would recommend one. I feel they are the best modern pocket .380s on the market

If you have large hands like I do, be prepared to lose a little skin when you shoot it. I get slide bite and my trigger finger pinched everytime I shoot one. It's pretty accurate for what it is and reliable. Push comes to shove and I'd rather lose a little skin than be rotting in a hole, but losing that skin doesn't make it pleasant to practice with.

Take it out of your pocket till you buy a cheap holster. A pistol can turn up side down with out a holster . You can loose control try to even get it and shot your self. If you can afford the pistol and ammo you can afford a holster too.

Forgot all about that. I pin my thumb on the shooting hand down using my other thumb and does it for me. YYMV.

I have one. Parked my LCP and sold my P3AT. First thing I do upon getting a small auto is pad the backstrap and stretch a piece of bike innertube over the grip. Makes them a lot more comfortable to shoot.

Are you saying that the TCP's trigger is better than the Kahr P380 and the Sig P238?

I have only handled, not fired, the Sig but I have used a Kahr cm9. The Taurus has a very light and smooth trigger. It's striker fired but pre - cocked by the slide and feels like a dao. My kahr had a nice trigger too but the sig and kahr do feel different. It was certainly better than the ruger lcp which felt too long in pull.

The TCP, P3AT, S&W Bodyguard, Kahr P380, Diamondback 380, Glock 42 and all the rest of the locked breach. Action pocket 380 pistols have the partially slide cocked action with the acception of the colt and Sig P380 which are both S/A trigger styles like a 1911 and the Glock 42 that is kind of I between the actions.

I can understand someone not wanting a S/A pistol in their pocket, but I can't agree with any of the DAO pistols triggers being even close to the P238 or the Colt 380 triggers. With that being said I do carry my TCP more than I do my Sig P238 just because it is lighter and smaller than the Sig making it a little more comfortable in my pocket.
