I carried the Ruger LC380, then the S&W Shield 9mm came out & that is now my carry gun I like the idea of a 9mm over the 380. Out of the box it's group matches my CZ duty .40 & my 92FS 9mm. It hides nice too.

Anyone know how the Shield compares to the size of the LC9?

I know I'm flip flopping and I'm all over the place. I'm making my choice in 3 days. Now, I'm thinking nano, as it looks the best (to me anyways) and just seems like the best choice from my research.

What is your experience level? How many two to four day defensive handgun courses have you attended? Have you fired at least several thousand centerfire rounds in the past year? Do you compete, and if so, in what?

I find that I generally need four sizes of gun to cover all situations. Larger, service sized guns such as the SIG P220, Glock 21 and Glock 17 work fine for me most of the time so long as I dress around them. The Glock mid-sized guns (19, 23, and 32) almost always work with a few exceptions. A Glock 26 covers 99% of all my carry needs. Sometimes, only a pocket gun will do and I keep a few around.

Your XD 45 Compact is Glock 19 sized. It should cover most situations. Adding an XDs 45 to the stable gets you "Glock 26" form factor and usage, along with the option to use longer magazines. I see no reason not to supplement the XD 45 Compact with one.

Based upon what you have been posting, these three guns would carry well for you:

XD 45 Compact
XDs 45
Kahr PM9 or CW9

Shooting them effectively is a different problem.

My first choice is one of two .45ACP 1911s.

I carry a Sig P938 for a pocket pistol if that is all I can conceal.

S&W M&P Shield 9mm. It would be nice to find one under $360.

I have had a Kel Tec PF 9 and it was an ok weapon, light, thin and pretty reliable, but hard to shoot well.
I finally bought a Walther PPS 9mm and am very happy with it. Is thin, simple (as in Glock simple) and has been 100% reliable with any ammo I stick in it. I looked at the S&W Shield and the XDS, but went the Walther over those.

Whose rule? I can carry and handle a .45acp but my EDC is an LCP so I want to know whose rule I'm breaking.

Congrats! I think you will like it. I would suggest avoiding cheap, 115 gr. ammo. Seems like most "micro-nines" need a bit more oomph to cycle reliably.
