Only 10 guns...

Lists like this make me realize how gun geeky and spoiled we are. I've never owned 10 guns at one time in my life. To be sure I'm not into the competitive gun sports where for instance a skeet shooter probably has several shotguns but how many ancestors do you think you have that ever had ten guns?
While they didn't have more than a few guns, I have more than 10 ancestors that all had a few guns and I've inherited quite a few.

My minimum:

.22 LR rifle
.22 LR handgun
30-06 hunting rifle
AR-15
Glock 19

I don't need 10 guns, although I own more than 10.

Current tastes

Pump (Win 61) or lever (Win94) .22 s, l, lr
Rem 700 .223
25-06 or 6.5x55 (Sako currently)
Win M70 .30-06
AHR .375 HH wish list gun
Marlin 1895 GBL in .45-70

WBY PA 08 with extra slug barrel

Ruger Blackhawk Convertible .357&9 mm
Kimber 1911 .45 ACP
Compact 9mm (not sure which at the moment) 1911 in 9mm? Currently I don't own one...

Honorable mention:
Browning A5 Sweet 16 also no tengo

Boy did this thread ever get resurrected from the dead!
Well if I could only have 10, I guess it would be these. :D :neener:

Only 10 guns

No.1 SW K.22 masterpiece
No.2 SW K.32 masterpiece
No.3 SW K.38 masterpiece
No.4 SW K.38 combat masterpiece
No.5Ruger .357 Blackhawk
No.6 Ruger .45 acp/.45 long colt Blackhawk
No.7 Ruger .22 mark111 com
No.8 1885 win high wall 45/70
No.9 Marlin .45/70 guide gun
No.10 mossburg 970 tactical 12ga

I believe I might be able to make it with these 10.

1. vepr12 tactical shotgun
2. Citori 12ga o/u
3. ar or mini 14 or ak or vz58
4. 308 scout rifle
5. 10/22 rifle
6. s&w k22 masterpiece 6" 22lr
7. redhawk 45acp/45 colt
8. glock 19
9. glock 30s
10. para 14-45 1911

This is completely unacceptable. I don't even have room for a 357 revolver, or a 410, or a few others. I'm glad i don't have to keep it to 10! but in any gun collection, i feel a few things are essential:
1. 12ga shotgun
2. 22lr rifle
3. scout rifle ~ 308 or equiv.
4. 1911
5. 9mm auto pistol
6. magnum revolver
7. snubbie revolver
8. 22lr pistol
9. AR or AK assault type rifle

That only leaves one space for another category, & no room for multiple guns in the list. Only one shotgun!! :eek: No 45 or 9mm revolvers.. no 44 magnum or pistol caliber carbines. No various sizes of autos... it can't be done. This is like asking which of your kids you like best.. sure there might be some traits you admire more than others, but you like them all.

Its an interesting concept, & i suppose it gives you an idea of the top 10. :)

Good list! You must be a bit partial to revolvers.. :D

I've got the k-22 & the 38 combat masterpiece.. great, accurate pistols.

But i'd have to go with 2 shotguns, a tactical type, & a good hunting o/u, for the aesthetics if nothing else. I would also not like to be without a ruger mk auto pistol, even though i love the k-22.

..and what kind of commie doesn't even have a 1911 on their list!?! :neener:

I'm waiting on the 100 gun list thread. If we're going to do lists, let's play big.

i suppose the list needs some kind of parameters.. shtf? Historical significance? Variety of ammo? Hunting? Home defense? Repelling zombie hordes? Availability of ammo?
Most/least expensive? Have to carry them in a bug out bag? Favorite to shoot? Best aesthetics?

My list would be a bit different, depending on these kinds of questions.

Love these lists and it's good to know I have at least one version of the majority of these "essential" guns listed. I still need a good wheel gun and a good 12g (I have a 16g bird gun). I'm also considering a 1911.

Fun to think about-- 4 handguns, 1 shotgun, 5 rifles

And... 10 different manufacturers

1) 6.5" .357 mag Taurus Tracker 7-shot revolver
2) Compact CZ75D PCR 14+1 9mm
3) 12 ga. Winchester model 12 pump
4) Marlin 30-30 cal. lever action
5) Mosin Nagant 91/30 7.62x54r bolt action
6) Henry 20" lever action .22 cal.
7) Uberti Cattlemen SA .45colt 6-shot revolver
8) Ruger SR-1911 .45ACP 8+1
9) CAI GP-1975 AK-47 7.62x39 30+1
10) CMMG AR-15 5.56 cal. 30+1

I'll play.

I'll play, but my list may seem rather mundane and utilitarian. My list doesn't necessarily reflect what I have, but what I'd choose if I had a hard 10-gun limit. I'll also go on the assumption that I would be able to get parts and ammo.

  1. Remington 870, 12 ga.;
  2. Remington 870, 20 ga.;
  3. AR-15;
  4. Glock 19;
  5. 1911 in .45 acp;
  6. Full-sized .357 revolver (SP101, perhaps?);
  7. Compact .357 revolver (Airweight or LCR);
  8. Bolt action rifle in .22LR;
  9. Bolt action rifle in .308 or 30-06; and
  10. Semi-auto pistol in .22LR.

Ruger Mini-14
Ruger SR40-C
Ruger SR9-C
Remington 700 sps tactical .308
Mossberg 500 pump action
Ruger 10/22
AR-10 in .308
Colt 1911 in .22 caliber
Ruger SP-101 in .357

I only need 9, lol.:neener:

S&W 422
Colt 2.5" Python
Kimber Pro TLE/RLII
Heizer .45 ACP Titanium
Ruger .45 LC/.45ACP Redhawk
Vang Comp 870 (+ lots of different barrels, furniture, etc.)
Krebs Custom KV-13, but SBR'd
LWRC M6A2 14"
M1A Scout 18"
Savage 111LRH .338 Lapua Mag.

Covers it all for me.

BTW, I own none of these guns. Used to own the 422 and Python, though. My 1911 is different, but I do have one. My AK is different, but I have one. My 870 is not a Vang.

I'll tweak it a bit.. What would be your top 10 if:
1. The SHTF, & it is the zombie apocalypse.
2. You cannot get parts.
3. You have to carry what you have, but food & water are abundant (yeah i know, makes no sense, but this is like a movie!).
4. Ammo seems to replace itself, too.. lots of stored caches of bullets everywhere!
IOW, you are in a modern apocalypse movie, where you don't really have to eat or drink or sleep, just shoot zombies, and maybe a few targets for fun.

Here would be my list, in this case:
1. semi auto 12ga w/mags, ala saiga or vepr.
2. m1a scout 308.
3. para 14.45 45acp 1911.
4. Glock 30s.
5. AR
6. redhawk 45acp/45c
7. 454 lever carbine

Most of the time, i'd have the AR in place, as it would give me the fastest shots & recovery with the most capacity. But if i needed some longer range, the carbines would fill that niche. No need for a nice engraved O/U.. no need for 22s or 9mms.

Actually, if i had to carry these around, i'd probably go with just 2, the ar & the para 14.45 (or maybe the glock 30s since it is lighter).. but there would be times i'd miss the shotgun.. i would hate to be without its power & easy accuracy. If there was plenty of ammo stashed all around, the shotgun would be nice for close range defensive work.. as long as the zombies weren't shooting back!

I guess there are a lot of 'what if' scenarios that could come up, & the firearm choice in those situations would be different, depending on the circumstances. If it were a hitchcockesque movie of 'The Birds', but with clay pigeons attacking everyone, a longer barreled, hi cap pump or auto might be nice. I might even prefer the O/U for accuracy, but reloads would be tough. If the zombie hordes were squirrels, a 10/22 would be tough to beat. but if they were grizzlies or rhinos, i'd want something a bit bigger..

:rolleyes:

Not necessarily what I have or dont...just 10 Id sure like to have, that are actually reasonably attainable

-1928 A1 thompson
-G3
-M1 Garand
-M1 Carbine
-Bushmaster Arm Pistol
-Winchester model 88
-Winchester mdl 12
-Marlin mdl 39 carbine
-para P14
-Mauser HSc

Whew! It isnt easy pruning a list down to 10!

When I saw this post just now I said to myself "Self, is this another 10 gun list thread?". So I started reading. Then I got to post #25 and realized it wasn't another 10 gun list thread. It was THE 10 gun list thread I visited many moons ago. Too funny.

1. Smith and wesson model 29
2. Colt SAA in .44 spl
3. Ruger bisley .45 colt
4. Marlin 1895 .45-70
5. 12ga of some sort
6.model 70 winchester 308 or .30-06
7.ak platform rifle
8. 1911 of some variant
9. Smith and wesson shield .40 cal
10.Mauser 98k

I could do this easily. In fact, I may need to live far from home for work for a while and I'm taking the top 2 and that might just be it. Now that I'm a bit older and have shot a lot, there are many things that I no longer need, want.

1. Glock 30SF in 45 ACP. This allows for conceal carry, training, and a back up to a long arm.
2. Mossberg 500 12 gauge with 18.5" barrel for home defense, 28" barrel for clays and birds, a rifled slug barrel for hunting.
3. A semiauto rifle for extreme times of worry. I personally like the Ruger mini-14 in 5.56 for this and a 5 gal bucket full of loaded mags.
4. A hunting rifle. I'd probably go with a 30-30 lever action as they are my favorite. I would be just as fine with a 30-06 or 308 bolt action as well.
5. I should probably put a 22 rifle on here. I'd be happy with either a take down ruger 10-22 or a lever action 22.

Honestly, I'm not sure I really need or want anything more than this. If anything, I'd likely get multiples of the same thing in case one breaks I have a spare I can use while the other is getting fixed.

Only 10...
my .270 (700bdl) is a tack driver
My 30-30 is a lot of fun plus sentimental (marlin 336)
My model 11 12 ga is dead reliable and I can hit well with it.
My taurus m44 is as nice of a revolver as I have ever handled (including colt and s&w)
My ruger single six 9" is suprisingly well balanced and accurate enough for squirrels.
My glock 42 is pretty much the perfect carry gun.
My taurus pt99afs is accurate, reliable, quick, and feels great
A s&w686+ would fill out the revolver needs
A marlin 60 is more 22 rifle than a man needs but a 10/22 would work too
And last but not least is a cheater gun...TC contender with .410 barrel, 22lr barrel, 223 barrel, 7-30 barrel, 44 mag barrel, 357 max barrel, 204 barrel, .50 muzzleloading barrel, pistol grips and carbine stocks, mixtures of carbine and pistol length barrels, and of course an SBR stamp to run it however I want to.

And it wouldn't hurt my feelings much to leave the 22 rifle off and throw in a drilling.

If I had to go with just 10

Rifles:

.22lr Ruger 10/22 fingergroove sporter
.223 Frankenstein AR 15 w 16" bbl (would rather have an FNC para)
.243 Remington 700ADL Synth (miss my Ruger #1 B)
.35 Thompson Center Contender carbine
.50 Thompson Center Hawken Silver Elite

Shotguns

20 Remington 1100 LT 26" VR RC (don't have one anymore- will though)
12 Remington 1100 SP Magnum w steel shot bbl 26"VR RC
12 Remington 870 Exp Supermagnum turkey model 23" VR RC

Handguns

.357 Colt Python 6" (light for deer but my .44 mag days are proly over)
.45 Colt Combat Commander SS

BTW, I currently have 3 Contenders, each set up as something (2 not listed) I don't switch barrels on shotguns or TC, prefer to set it and forget it.

Years ago I realized that most of my guns were centerfire hands so I organized a basic firearm collection.

Handguns;

Small game / plinking / target shooting;

1. 22 LR Revolver

Conceal Carry;

2. 5 shot small frame Taurus M-85
3. Sig P-239 9mm

General Purpose;

4. S&W Model 10 38 Special 4” barrel

Big Game Self-Defense / hunting;

5. S&W Model 29 44 magnum 6” barrel

Shotgun;

6. Model 12 takedown 12 ga.

Rifles;

Small game / plinking / target shooting;

7. Ruger 10/22

Woods / 100 – 150 yard deer hunting:

8. Remington 336 35 Remington

Big Game / long distance;

9. Ruger M-77 .270

Self-defense;

10. AR

I will comment that my list is fluid and subject to change. For example conceal carry handguns were not added to the list until Kansas passed Concealed Carry law. I just decided this year to drink the AR Kool-Aid.

Other guns are equally good choices;

Winchester 92 30-30 instead of the Marlin 35 Remington.
Remington 870 instead of Model 12 shotgun.

The S&W Model 10 is on the list because I carried a K-Frame on duty for 30 years. It is a long time friend that I shoot very well. It just fits me and is a rugged, time proven design. A better choice might be the same gun in .357 magnum (Model 13).

Fun thread thanks.

That's always my problem with making any kind of a "list" of X number of firearms, I get to X-1 and X make me reconsider #2 on the list then when I change #2, #5 no longer fits.

For "using" guns 10 is way more than I need.

Blackhawk .45 convertible for deer and fun
S&W 4566 sidearm
Browning BDA CCW
LCP pocket carry
Browning BSS bird gun
H&R ultra slughunter 20 ga deer long gun
