My choice would probably be the Weatherby, because they fit me just right, but I'd look hard at the Winchester as well, and although its not on your list, you should check out the Tikka as well. All three would be an excellent choice, so its really down to whichever one fits/feels right to you.

I've had ARs, now my only .223 is a Mini 14. I just prefer the Mini 14, and mine shoots just as well as an AR. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ARs, they are just not for me. I think you'd be happy with either choice.

For me, its usually a .45 (ether a Sig 1911 or P220) and my Model 10. Occasionally its a .357 or .44 as well or in place of the .45, but my trusty old Model 10 is always along for the ride.

I would say enjoy! If you are a fan of the M1, you will like the Mini 14. Its a fun little rifle to shoot, fits me well, and the accuracy on mine is just fine. I find mine to be much more enjoyable to shoot than an AR, and I'd never get rid of it.

In that price range I think you'll have no problems finding a nice used rifle, probably with a scope. The only hang up may be the iron sight requirement, but its probably still do able. In a newer gun, I'd look for a Savage, best bang for the buck IMO. If that doesn't float your boat, I'm sure...
