I don't like the M1, it was heavy, held only 8 rounds of a large heavy cartridge in a hard to change clip and bit the finger of the loader if mis-handled
SC-Texas, Have you cleaned it real well, there might be some factory grit in there that need to be cleaned out. Also try a Wolff reduced power hammer spring.
Some folks load up a new gun with toothpase and then go to Mr D. Fire, I like that it's funny, about 1000 times works.

A 357 from a Marlin will do well for most types of still hunting in the lower states, I would not do large bear, but close in for most anything smaller than elk or moose.
357 needed for HD/SD, not really, but 38s would be and are sweet in a Marlin1894c.
A nice S&W Registered Magnum would do well even if it were one with about 60% finish, but only Saxonpig would do that.
A nice S&W 27-2 w/3.5 inch barrel would do well as a substitute.
Any one of the Gun-of-the-Month that S&W was doing in the 80's and 90's, a K Comp would be sweet.

Have you ever built an H&R or other break action in 357mag.
I would like to get an old 410 shotgun and have it rebarreled to 357. Some of them old shotguns have nice light frames and would make good walking guns.
I know I do not get around often and it might not be totally THR, but I am speaking my mind, I do not like it.
It is too wide with both side saddles they would get in my way when shooting from concealment or around barricades and they fully loaded add a lot of weight to the gun. More weight...
