I have dropped a "go" headspace gauge into several different "case gauges" from wilson and dillon and measured them with my protrusion micrometer.
I see enough variation between the different manufacturers that I would not trust any of those case gauges.
I just make my own case gauges and use...
I probably open up half a dozen standard barrel nuts to clear bull barrels every year.
I have been doing it for years without a single reported issue from anyone that I have done them for...
I only do service work now.
I'm no longer SELLING parts or making custom barrels from blanks where I have to provide all the parts.
Most of my work is re-work of existing factory barrels.
I will turn/chamber barrels from customer provided blanks/parts.
I used quickload for generating those plots and then photoshopped in the as port locations and mozzle locations.
You can model any cartridge/barrel lenth/bullet/powder combo and see the differences.
Bore expansion ratio is a HUGE factor in how fast pressures decay in the barrel before and after...
I do them by cutting off the original knob, then drilling a hole in the shank, turning a threaded stud to slip into the hole and then welding around the shank/stud junction.

You will have to take the slide on and off a lot and pop the connector housing up out of the frame each time to make the adjustment to the over travel stop...
I shorten and thread 16" barrels down to most any length that people ask for after they get their approved form 1 back and do their engraving.
I wish I lived in a free state where we could have SBR's and cans...
Tig weld a little fitting pad on the lower right front edge of the sight base.
Then file it to fit until the sight sits square (no obvious rotation when viewed from above).
The factory barrels are all throated really long.
You could get a custom barrel made with a shorter throat that would allow you to seat much closer to the lands at magazine length.
I tig welded a lug on an H&R 12ga barrel a couple weeks ago.
The customer had lost the original threaded piece and screw.
I just ordered a bag of weld nuts from McMaster and formed the flange to match up with the barrel diameter.
Then I stitched around the edge of the nut with a tig welder.
The...
The savage guys always rave about how easy the guns are to rebarrel.
Have you thought about replacing the barrel with a much heavier one in 308 and en getting a better stock?
That would upgrade your gun without even having to sell it and buy something else...
Get the gun up to 12lbs or so and it...
