    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

I don’t think they are equivalent. My question is at what point does the difference become significant.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

I am not planning anything, and don't see there was a need for the accusation. I was asking about the terminal ballistics of 2 cartridges specifically at shorter ranges than are generally discussed for rifle cartridges. If this is an inappropriate topic, I am happy for a moderator to delete...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Bad guys, ie, people shooting at me. Its an unlikely scenario, but not an impossible scenario.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

yes the intent of my question would be that the adversary is not wearing body armor. They also do not have access to a Bradley fighting vehicle.

Ruger Mini thirty would be about 3 pounds lighter than a M1A.

    Self-Defense Ammo for Glock 42

The tests I have seen show less than 10" penetration in gel.

    Self-Defense Ammo for Glock 42

No opposition to the rounds that could defeat your barrier test. I generally am going to want to should a couple hundred rounds of a particular ammo through a gun before I decide if its reliable. That could get costly with the ammo you mention, I would think, and that ammo can be hard to...

    Self-Defense Ammo for Glock 42

The majority of the rounds in the test that penetrate enough don't hardly expand. In my mind, its not worth the risk of getting a jam.

    Self-Defense Ammo for Glock 42

The problem with 380 hollow points is that if they expand, they usually don't penetrate enough. I prefer penetration to expansion. I agree with other that the XTP is one of the better hollow point designs for 380. It doesn't expand much though. I generally carry FMJ in 380. I want plenty of...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

No doubt 7.62 NATO is superior to x39. That is not what I was asking. The question is, how much difference will it make at 100 or 150 yds. I was trying to be very specific with the question so the thread wouldnt go off on a tangent. To phrase a little more clearly, if you knew that you would...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

I dont doubt you are right, but my question was really about close range... 150 yds or less.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

The question is not the numbers. I agree they are all better with 308. The question is, will it make a difference. A nuke is better than 500 pounds of TNT. Drop either on me and I am dead.

How Many Extra Magazines Per Handgun?

Certain magazines are more of a commodity than others. Buy them cheap and stack them deep. Glock 9mm magazines are one example. During the Clinton assault weapon ban years, new pre ban Glock magazines sold for $100 or more each. I won't be going through that again.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Yes, I would agree. But will it really make a difference? 7.62x39 is already a formidable cartridge. Is 7.62x51, even though more powerful, really going to cause more wounding or more rapid incapacitation at short ranges?
