But how does it shoot?
The nice thing about older revolvers with "Character Marks" is that I'm less concerned about using them hard, or loaning them out.
I am a LEO with an agency of about 1,100 officers. The only revolvers I have seen in the last 20 years has been a few BUG's, usually some type of J-Frame. Even these are becoming less and less as the newer officers tend to gravitate towards the sub compact 9mm's and 380's.
Keep the Ruger.
It's a working gun. I wouldn't worry about re bluing it, even if funds were available. People used blued guns for a lot of years before stainless steel was even an option.
I wouldn't trade your Ruger for BOTH of his revolvers...
Just about to hit 50. I grew up shooting and then carrying revolvers. Times have changed, and so have I.
The only thing that can tear me away from my current Glock 19 would possibly be the new HK VP9.
The new Walther CCP is supposed to be soft shooting and easy to pull the slide.
It's a pit bigger than the Shield. IF it works out as expected, it is targeting the exact market as what you are describing.
Can anyone tell me if the Badger boot grip permits all three fingers on the grip?
I'm looking for something to put on my 642 that can allow the pinky finger.
The Badger round grip posted by ArchAngel looks like you can get the pinky finger on board, but is it too bulky for pocket carry?
Short answer, YES.
I participated in a couple of ballistics workshops my agency hosted about 3 years ago. Seeing exactly how poor the top rated 380 rounds performed with my own eyes made me a believer.
For me, 9mm is as low as I will go.
I like being able to get a higher grip on the Centennial design of the 642.
I really have no need of S/A fire capability from a light weight J-Frame gun.
so for a CCW J-Frame, the 642 is my preferred revolver.
When I started carrying guns, life was simpler. If you wanted to carry an semi auto, it was a Colt 1911. If you wanted a revolver, it was a S&W. If you had extra money, then you got a Colt Python.
Revolvers were supposed to be reliable. Semi auto's were supposed to be a crap shoot...
