    Powder Recommendation for 9mm/45ACP

I've had excellent results with both accuracy and velocity with W-231. It also burns much cleaner than the old stand by powders.

Reloading 8mm Mauser, like new 323 barrel

Dave, All the manuals hold 36,000 CUP. This is due to the rifles manufactured in 1943 and later aren't heat treated correctly and some of the rifles brought home by returning Vets had a nasty habit of coming apart when fired with what should have been a normal pressure load. Because of the...

    What does turning necks accomplish?

gamestalker, Turning the outside of case necks corrects an all to common problem of case necks varying in thickness which results in the bullet not being aligned with the bore. This often results in unexplained fliers. I've measured cases that the necks vary as much as .005". The worst...

    45 acp powder

viking, I've found W-231 to be a good .45 ACP powder. I've gotten good accuracy and velocities. It also burns much cleaner than the old stand by powders.

What kind of powder for 8x57

I had good results with accuracy and velocity with IMR4320 and the Sierra 175gr bullet. Kath, my wife used it for elk in Wyoming when we lived there. Didn't quite make the ideal antelope rifle, so I gave her my pre 64 Win M-70 FW. Before she took it and part of my scalp for good measure. Now our...

Very, very, very unusual annealing method

gamestalker, I have never heard of this technique before. The only thing I can think of that uses such a technique was a friend of mine who made custom knives, and he used it on a fully shaped blade to harden the steel without making it brittle. I don't know what I'm talking about here, butt...

    45acp Failure to Eject

gregj, It looks as if the slide is not coming back far enough to have the case strike the ejector. A very good fix for this is to replace the standard ejector with a ejector from a Colt Commander. This is the fix for a Colt Auto and I'll bet it will also work for your pistol.

160gr lead RN 9mm and Bullseye

badsugarterrors, I don't believe there is such a thing as a 160gr 9mm bullet. The heaviest bullet normally associated with the 9mm is the 147gr. I've checked all of my book and none of them show anything heavier than 147gr for any bullet, cast or jacket. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

How do you handle loose primer pockets?

If the feeling of friction against the walls of the primer pocket isn't felt, junk it. Hot gases in the face are not nice.

    Range report

Bmac, Lets see if I've got this right. You shoot sub moa using H-4350 powder, but you're unhappy because a high end bullet doesn't do as well using H-414. Well just goes to show you how much of an individual your rifle may be. I've gotten pretty good accuracy with H-4350, but H-4831sc has...

    Factory ammunition, be careful!

gamestalker, I seriously doubt if the ammo had been loaded incorrectly by Winchester. With the lapsed time involved It is a pretty good bet that the ammo had been improperly stored. Ammo stored in a garage for a few years and subjected to cold winters and hot summers will result in a...

What do you like in bullets ?

blarby, I've spent a lot of time and money on components researching the bullets I'll use. To use anything else at this stage of the game would be a waste of time and even more money. So I'll just buy what I know will do the job. I figure that will be cheaper in the long run. :)

buying cast bullets over the internet

gutterman, I've had dealings with Missouri Bullet company. All my dealings have been very pleasant. They offer their bullets in three different hardness. Not being interested in gas check bullets I didn't notice if they are offered or not. Check their website. :)

    Progressive .223 on Dillon 550B??

Thumper, I have a slightly different method. I use a RCBS universal depriming die to get the primers out of the way. Then I clean the primer pockets and then clean the cases. I like to handle cases because it gives me a chance to inspect them for indications of problems. After the cleaning I...
