    Muzzle loudening devices.

The disadvantage is deafening yourself. Then you won't be able to hear those bad guys sneaking up behind you. You only get two ears. Once they're gone...

Thinking of selling Kimber 84M for pre-64 Winchester 70

I have a great Kimber 84M in .308 that drives tacks. However, I've been getting the itch for a pre-64 Winchester model 70. I don't see myself saving up to buy the Winny in addition to the Kimber. Should I do it? Pros/cons?

    If your wife...

I'd go for something with some age. A pre-war Winchester model 70 in pristine condition or an old lever gun. That's just me.

    Which 30-30

Funny Winchester video. Didn't wear a tree stand harness and missed the deer he was shooting at!

Why are pump action rifles not popular any more?

I like my 760, but it's bothersome shooting from a rest. Its contours dig in and make it uncomfortable when slung over the shoulder. Lever guns and certainly bolts carry a bit easier.

    Opinions regarding Kimber 84M

    Love mine.

Found Remington 760 at old LGS for good price but...

As others have said, that's a great price. If it's already been side tapped for a sight I wouldn't hesitate to have the top tapped. It's no collector's item. The guns after 1960 have free floated barrels and can be surprisingly accurate with handloads. You should be able to shoot 1"-1.5"...

Remington 760 carbine info and advice please

My .30-06 shoots great. The Timney trigger replacement is a must.

What Deer Rifle... I'm Going Nutz Ova Here!!

There are so many guns out there to fit your need. I suggest handling as many as possible and buying the one that fits you the best. Smaller guns like the Remington model 7 or Kimber 84m fit me nicely as I am only 5' 7". The Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 is an incredible scope for a deer gun.

    Remington 760 .308 barrel life?

Yes, yes. 2"-3" if you're lucky. It's not a MOA gun. Oh, wait... :what:

Is the Remington 725 a sleeper?

The Remington 725, deluxe version of the 721, hinged floor plate, cut checkering, three position safety, and only 17,000 made from 1958-61. Do you think in years ahead collectors will start seeking them out? Why, or why not? How do they compare to a pre 64 Winchester model 70?

    Target scope for load development

Is it common to use a dedicated target scope for working up loads in hunting rifles? Just wondering how many people put a target scope on their rifles for load development, find the best load, then replace the target scope with something more practical.

    Marlin XL7?

I worked on one a couple years ago. The biggest issues are the plastic stock and trigger guard. The action screws are at risk of cutting through the soft plastic even at lower torque. Otherwise, it grouped around 1.75" with factory ammo in 7mm-08. It will kill a deer but probably won't hold up...

    the hunt....for a scope

Love the Leupold VX3 in 2.5-8X36. It's going to be a classic.

Rifle for a vintage Weaver M4 scope?

Savage, I have some good rifles (Kimber, Winchester, Remington, Savage) with good glass (mostly Leupold VX3, and an old 760 with a vintage Redfield). Totally understand the advancement in scopes since the 1950s. I'm just looking for a vintage vibe in a cool older deer rifle with a NOS Weaver...
