John M your going in the wrong direction here. If you don't believe YOUR us army is training soldiers to shoot long range, well good luck to you. I did make expert. But my question is about which rifle would be better for elk.
I've bested this in the service with a m16 a2. I've had the mn 20 years and my longest kill was 800 yards on a deer. The enfield I've had 40 years and made a 1250 yd kill on a deer . My question is the extra power of the mn needed for an elk or is the 303 enough. MOST OF THE ELK i'VE SEEN...
I've been loading the mn with 53.5 grs of 4350 and the enfield with 45 grains 0f 4350. recently I've started to use 39 grains of 4895 in the enfield. Do I really need the extra powder of the mn or is the enfield enough?
I've got an enfield (no.2 mk3) and a mosin (m91/??). I reload for both and have been shooting them for years.( pretty good shoot). Earned expert in the army.
