Former Sheriff Deputy Advising Carrying on Empty Chamber

Idk. I think carrying on empty chamber is a good stage to start on for beginners. And class instructors probably assume that most people in class are beginners. After all self-inflicted gunshot wounds make one feel pretty stupid, not to mention they do nothing to resolve the situation when one...

Prediction: Shortage will be over soon!

.30-06 and .300 win mag are not used by semi auto owners that much. Im thinking calibers like .22 lr, 9 mm, .40, .45, .223 and .308 are the ones that will be low or expensive for a while

    .45 BP short wildcat experiment

This is just a speculation but I would guess that once these disks start passing through a tight choke, the edges experience greater friction while the hot gas pushes on the middle decreasing the cross section of the disk and drawing it out like cup. Think of a rock in a cloth napkin

    Interesting Conversation with an ANTI

I find the ambiguous term "sensible regulations" in the above quote very alarming. I really think that she means more than just gun control. I understand it as in her opinion there will be more "freedom" for DHS to do whatever they want once they remove the ability of people to resist.

    how'd you force a patina?

I use rust remover (naval jelly whatever) and a little bit of zinc added. For zinc I use either scraps of plated steel or hot dipped nails. You dont need a lot of zinc. The mix works fast but I do several reps with rinsing in water in between. Sorta like cold Parkerizing. Very durable finish and...

Mexicans taking matters into their own hands

I think that the intention is great but I'm concerned this vigilante group is just going to devolve into another armed gang with little left of the original philosophy under the massive pressure of corruption and drug cartels around. Unfortunately money always wins and these people are poor...

    Check this out. "Stabilizing brace"

Really shouldnt cost that much. Too bad they probably have the thing patented so noone else can rush in and sell them for half the price.

Odd Question about dynamite and shotguns

I read somewhere that Che Guevara used a similar setup with a grenade instead of dynamite and even wrote a manual on how to build something like this, since he was planning to "spread" revolution after he was done with Cuba. Ah radicals...

    Al handguards and heat!

Yeah I would say some sort of a lighter color for the furniture and maybe a white cotton fabric gun sock would help. I have gotten away with wrapping the gun with a damp linen sheet (cut to size of course) but I make sure the gun is oiled very well and reapply oil frequently.

New barrel break in - is this necessary?

I don't use any special procedures to break in a barrel. I just shoot it and keep in mind to pay too much attention to the accuracy in the beginning, since I am getting used to the rifle/caliber. I also try harder not to overheat the barrel until it smooths out a bit. I guess you can call that a...

Is the ruger scout worth it?

I agree with ngnrd here. I have handled the rifle and I like it but this would definitely not be my optimal choice for an elk rifle. You have a .308 which is considered by many to be in the lowest acceptable tier for an elk cartridge. Add a short barrel which will rob the cartridge of the...

Don't reload? You should... here's why

Take golfing for example, the thing we look forward to is not trying to make our own golfballs/clubs from scratch, but to actually play. I have to admit that people are different and some people enjoy preparation and count it as part of their hobby. And some people don't, even if they can do...

Proposed replacement for the M4: The AKM

"The arguments regarding foreign produced military arms have already been made, and quite well. You can argue the point as much as you want to waste the time doing so, but the truth is that the AR was chosen over the AK for MANY reasons, not solely country of design or origin. Its more accurate...

Can the ammo situation get much worse?

What I don't understand is that why are the shelves not flooded with foreign ammo. As far as I know there are no ammo shortages in Europe. I bet the Russians will be very happy to fill such a large demand if given a chance. Of course its not top notch ammo in a lot of cases but its still better...
