    2012 Deer Season Check Station

Thanks! Hiis left g2 was forked and the front fork is broken off, an his right g4 is broken off a few inches down from where it would have been. The bucks have really been fighting this week. He is a very special deer for our little place - seven years hunting here and never seen a buck even...

    2012 Deer Season Check Station

Some beautiful bucks in this thread - thought I'd add another. Got him Saturday morning south of Seguin Tx on my parents place, 92 ac low fence. It was a good day. Hopefully the image upload works

    Nice deer!

Heck of a trying day for a dad.

Free ranging dogs are a problem. In Central Texas, they are largely considered fair game if caught on your property. One of our ranch dogs was shot in the rear a few years ago (I'm sure by one of our neighbors), and although he's a sweet dog, I'm sure he was doing something he shouldn't have...

    Help - I need a deep freeze

Thanks everyone! I took bdubz0r's advice and got the 5cf unit from Lowes for $129. Now I'm ready to fill another tag this year!

    Help - I need a deep freeze

My side by side refer/freezer is running out of space and I have more venison to store. Will an upright freezer unit work or do those not work as well as the chest type? What size (I don't have a ton of excess space). Will a ~9 c.f. unit work or do I need to move up? I'm thinking in the future...

Got a great hill country buck last weekend

Thanks! It was an awesome feeling - I felt like a mix between "The Marlboro Man" and "The Most Interesting Man In The World" from the Dos Equis commercials. I'll never forget it.

Got a great hill country buck last weekend

Definitely got two wall hangers. Here's another photo of me w/ the buck where he fell, showing how a "normal" snapshot didn't do him justice. I'm standing over him so you can't see his body, his rack is not in siloette, the camera's point of view is higher than both of us so we both look small...

Got a great hill country buck last weekend

I haven't scored him yet - the rancher estimated in the 140s, estimated spread at 21". We were laughing that his open rack and tall, strait, vertical tines and the good photography make him look like a much higher scoring deer.

Got a great hill country buck last weekend

This was my second nice buck this year. It was a great hunt, I'm going to write the story up over the holiday. The rancher knew how to set up a great photograph, and took this one of me and the buck (I’m sitting a little behind and downhill of him, his rack is in silhouette against the sky...

No limit dove hunt in Texas!

:what: I can't believe TPWD officials thought this was a good idea. I'm really interested to see what the details of the contract were. http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sports/stories/outdoors/09/01/0901dovehunt.html "Monday, September 01, 2008 BROWNWOOD — Texas Parks and...

What's your favorite movie/TV show gun battle scene?

Last of the Mohicans; Dances with Wolves (the long shot on the buffalo charging the kid is great) A little different, but how about Master and Commander? I'm a big fan of the Patrick O'Brian novels, and I thought the film was excellent.

    686 Project

Confederate - good info, thanks. I think I may cause more harm than good trying it myself - I may talk to a smith. Apex - beautiful job. I've got some scratches that are a little too deep for polish and I may need to look into the extra-fine grit paper or something similar to tackle those...

    686 Project

I got a 686-5 over the weekend as a project. I haven't had much experiece working on guns, but I was thinking I'd do a RobertFBurnett-style 17-coat Mother's hand polish :D, some nice wood grips, and maybe a spring change to the Wolff Power Rib mainspring and reduced power rebound spring. Can I...
