If you have not hunted turkey before you might want to consider a shotgun. Wild turkey are very observant and leary birds and getting one to cooperate can be difficult. One of my sons has hunted with a rifle, a shotgun and a bow. He considers the bow most difficult. I prefer to use a 22 with...
Sorry for the late reply. 2 sons-1 with 9422 and 1 with 9422M. Both are very well finished and very accurate-.5" at 50 yds. I have shot several 39's and found them to be accurate but not as well finished nor smooth as the Winchesters. Both you are asking about are quality firearms and you need...
The 7-08 needs a 24 inch barrel to come up to its full potential but you should be able to get good velocity out of your 20 incher. The most accurate load (3/8 Inch groups) in my 7-08 is the 140 gr ballistic silvertip in front of 47 gr of 4350. This is a max load in my gun and should be...
I have to disagree with the statement that no case triming is necessary. In my Marlin Mod 62 I have to trim after every 2nd firing and that is with medium pressure medium velocity rounds. With my Universal 30 Carbine I do not find it necessary to trim near as often but I do have to trim.
In one of the military's few moments of sanity they decided that it was better to hit the enemy with a puny 30 caliber slug than it was to miss the enemy with a 45 caliber slug. I carried all three and saw that the 45 was difficult for most people to master whereas most could do reasonably well...
I shoot the 115 Ballistic Silvertips in my 25-06 and get very good accuracy. With 49 gr of IMR 4350 and with 53 gr of IMR 4831 I get groups of 3/4 MOA or better. I currently use the 4831 load as it gives slightly better accuracy.
Caution-the 53gr of IMR 4831 is above the max load as stated in...
I believe you said your pistol was a .357. Especially with soft lead bullets you can have a problem with the shorter .38 special cases and particularly have a buildup in the chambers. I have shot many thousands of HBWC load through numerous .357's and had no excessive leading problems but I used...
jcwit-All rifles are different. Your experience may be different from mine and you may be using different equipment. I reload 30 carbine using Lee dies for two rifles-a Universal carbine and a Marlin Model 62. I was having problems with chambering and ejection. I started using the Factory Crimp...
For your regular rifle calibers the basic 2 die die sets should work just fine. For the 30 carbine you will need a "factory crimp" die in addition to the basic 3 die set. Also, for the 30 carbine you can get a carbide resizing die but you may need to lightly lube every 3rd case. I don't reload...
Life is too short to keep a gun you are not comfortable with and cannot shoot well. I had the same experience with an expensive H & K 9mm target gun. It cost 2 to 3 times as much as my other pistols and, for both my son and I, shot groups much larger than any of our other autoloaders. I kept...
I have a Marlin Levermatic (Mod 62 w/ 20" barrel". It seems to be very critical in both feeding and ejecting. I think I solved the feeding problem by getting a factory crimp die but still have occasional problems with extracting and ejecting-especially witn S & B factory loads. Is this a common...
One thing you want to be sure to do is give your carbine a good cleaning. Until you nknow more about the collector value do not refinish. Nearly all rifles that have "set up" for some period of time will benefit from a good bore and chamber cleaning. I have put many rounds through various US and...
