45# draw is plenty for hunting. Use a 2 blade broad head, Sniper, Magnus,, etc. I have bow hunted for 33 years. Shot placement is king. E-bay, Craigslist, go to local bow shop if you want a new bow. Get measured correctly and "tune" the bow. It is awesome...I love bow hunting and I have shot 1...

Thanks, I want to shoot a deer with it. My brother and I have not used it for a hunt since we were kids. And i have never shot anything but cans and such with it.

I have a Winchester 1894, Standard 1894 26" Sporting Rifle, made in 1902. I have a dumb question..... can I shoot any normal 30-30 ammo in this rifle or do I have to worry that modern loads will cause a problem. Thanks for any info. I asked in rifles forum also, so, move if not in right place...

Works great in west Texas. Turned out watermelon rind works great, lol, they would come up to the cabin to get them.

I think you did everything right. You did not show your weapon, you did not threaten him....you just paid attention to your surroundings. You were ready if things went bad.....good for you.

I am the opposite. I love bowhunting...... and I'm good at it. I have shot 2 animals in the last 25 years with a gun.... and that was 15 years ago. I love the rush of bowhunting. I have nothing against rifle hunters, I just love the bow. I am starting to rifle hunt varmints now though.

Wait for a quartering away shot , if you can. Shoot a little lower...the vitals on hog are a little lower in the chest than a whitetail. If you shoot a whitetail "heart" shot, you will double lung shot a hog. I only bowhunt them anymore...heart shot, you have a 10 to 30 yard tracking job. Double...
