I can fully understand your thoughts on the 1911! I am there myself. I will say I am a big fan of the Browning (FN) Hi-Power and if you want to talk revolvers well I'm all over the board on that one!:D

Do yourself a favor and get a BHP! They are the Rolex of semi-auto pistols.

I ordered one of Nate's 1.5" belts along with a holster and mag holder for my BHP not quite 3 years ago. I wear the belt almost everyday at work and of course when I strap on the holster and mag holder it performs quite well.
