.358" 200 gr. or 195 gr. LRN Source?

Lyman 358430 How many do you need? I have this mold, and probably a few of these bullets already cast and ready to load. FH

    Way Below "Subsonic"

Alumltd, I'm glad you found the schooling session useful, but any criticisms in my post weren't directed at you. You asked a question that indicated you were willing to at least explore something, and in response I gave the best answers I could, based on personal experience . My beef is...

    Way Below "Subsonic"

"but I could visually track bullet to target." Now that is the way cool thing about ultralights, watching a 250gr bullet arc it's way to the target and "looking" it all the way in. Gotta be holding the gun just right to see it though. Jim, Mal and 444 all speak the truth. I get tired of...

    Reloads coming up short

No prblem SAAMI spec overall length (OAL) for the 44 magnum is 1.585". A jacketed handgun bullet and most commercially cast bullets would have a crimp groove located to give you that length. The Speer 240gr bullet you are using will give you 1.585 when seated normally. I see the 1.6" mentioned...

    Way Below "Subsonic"

Lock the gun Why not just "lock" the gun shut by using the heaviest recoil spring you can find? That would give you a little more flexibility in powder charges so you can be sure of worthwhile velocity while keeping the gun closed. Then you can swap back to the standard spring for regular loads...

Anyone want to trade cases (.357 for 30-06)

Don't need .357's... ...because I have them coming out my ears. I have the same problem with just about every caliber I shoot, including 30-06. Right now I have more '06 cases than I'll probably ever use. If you want to buy some cheap maybe we can make a deal.

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

No Hijack Hey Cosmoline. Not trying to hijack your thread here. Just making some observations of my own on the subjects the thread covered. I really like duplicating and shooting the old specialty loads like you brought up and thought I could offer something. I suppose there are all kinds...

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

Myths? Cosmoline, I'm not sure how to respond to your last post, but I think I should. You repeat two old "myths" that I hear even very experienced handloaders take as gospel while all the real evidence seems to prove other wise. Since I am new to this board, I'll preface my comments by saying...

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

Sounds about right My old Lyman manual shows a 120gr bullet with 7.5/Unique at 1480fps. Won't be subsonic but should work fine otherwise.

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

Lead They would have been cast or swaged lead. The commercial swaged lead .32 caliber pistol bulllets in the 85-100 grain range would be a close modern substitute. The Lyman 311316 or 311008 would be spot on.

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

With equal respect... ..my friend, gas checks are not only unneccesary, they will be counter productive in getting the subsonic results that Cosmoline was asking about. I routinely shoot both lubed and unlubricated pure lead bullets at speeds up to 900 fps with no leading. Bore smoothness is...

    .38-200, Super Police data needed

From Wikipedia ".38/200 was the British service cartridge adopted in 1922 for .38 calibre pistols and revolvers which replaced the larger .455 and .476 inch handguns. [edit] Webley demonstrated a lighter version of their Mk III revolver with modified .38 S&W ammunition with a heavy 200...

158 gr .38/.357 Winchester Bulk Pack - not recommended for moderate velocity loads

Very interesting results I have shot a lot of these bullets through 4" and longer .357's and gotten good expansion in wet newsprint. I get the same results you did in any load running under 1000 fps, as your probably were in your snubby. They have always done OK for me in full velocity loads...

Replicating the .30-6-100 small game load?

Try this for a reduced load Here are some general guidelines I have found useful for ultralight center fire loads in rifle cases: Use plainbase lead bullets only, the softer the better. Do not use gas checks. Use any fast pistol powder like Bullsye, Red Dot, Green Dot, 700x or Solo 1000...
