He's having a tough time deciding between the XS7 and the Stevens 200.
In all honesty I dont even know which I would choose. If I was building a 1,000 yard rifle I would choose the Stevens 200 mainly for the action and aftermarket availability. BUT for a hunting setup with a max range of...
I've talked him down to a fixed 6x scope. He hunts in open beanfields where he rarely has bucks within 50 yards. He thinks variables shift their point of zero too much. Otherwise I'd say a 3x9 would suit his needs perfectly.
I can see where hes coming from... If I knew I'd only be taking deer...
My friend said he really wants either the XS7 or Stevens 200... Here is what I told him.
XS7
Nice adjustable trigger
fits savage barrels
slightly stiffer stock
pillar bedding
many are MOA
Can get a nice wood stock for $90 from boyds
Stevens 200
proven accuracy
savage action
flimsy stock
MOA...
Your review really peaked my interest. I've looked at them before but thought they looked a bit cheap and didn't see many after market parts available but if its as good as you say I wont need after market lol
Definitely gonna check out a t/c venture in .308
I dont think I could allow my friend to get an edge... Heard too many bad things from reputable people in my area. Heard a lot of good about those stevens 200's tho.
I'm looking at used rifles for a friend.... Only has about $750 to drop into a 500 yard gun. Will be a 300-400 yard hunter (White tail deer) and will also be shot at the range. Preferably in .308
Hes okay with an older used single shot design... The simpler the better. Maybe something like an...
Yea, I would like it to eventually be a good setup to take to the range as well... I like the idea of building my own though because I can get it my way. I might end up having to get a variable scope after all. I dont see how I can get by with a fixed 4x at the range and I dont see myself using...
I think I'm going to get a Stevens 200 in .308 eventually get a heavier barrel, better stock and probably a better trigger.
With a leupold fixed 4x scope.
This will be the first rifle I own.. I've got 22's and shotguns etc but I've always borrowed rifles from either family or friends. I think I'm just going to go for the .308 its big enough to hunt anything I want to yet accurate enough to shoot 600 yards at a target. If it was good enough for...
I mentioned I was 20 lol... This gun will not be accompanying me on my first hunt, I've been hunting ever since I was about 13. I would like to keep the gun + scope around $750
Okay now factor in I will routinely be doing 500-600 yard target shots... Thats why I was worried about flat shots and bucking the wind.
(Oh btw I am appreciating everyones help here)
