I've always had great luck with Hogue's fit, but sadly they don't make a K/L frame bantam for a square butt.

Well I sent back the first pair, and 29 days after first ordering them I got a second pair which fit ok, not great: for $100+ seems like they should have better quality control. I like the looks of their Secret Service grips, but doubt I'll buy again from them. Spegel grips next time?

Just got a pair of checkered ebony Secret Service grips for my 3" S&W 686-3, but am unable to get the right side on at all, and the left sticks out at the top of the frame leaving a very sharp edge. I like the appearance of them, and wonder if it's worth sending them back and trying another...

If you REALLY want a nice package, put the rubber Crimson Trace grips on your 640...absorbs even heavy Mag loads, and extends its shootability into low light/no light situations.

I've never, ever read or heard about anyone shooting their 640 loose. Like most people with them, I do most of my shooting with standard pressure .38Spl, and carry it with .38Spl +P or .357Mag. BTW, I currently have mine loaded with Spear's new .357Mag 135gr SB Gold Dot load: reduced power...
