When I shot IHMSA, I used a contender with a 10" 44mag barrel and also an open barrel; 7mm/30-30 in 14".
I loaded the 44 to standard loading manual at a notch below maximum. Had no problem tipping the rams (those dadburn turkeys would go down hard but were way harder to hit! :D).

I take a roll of construction paper to provide a clean background on the wood frame at the outdoor range. I'm often shooting with a friend and we can get the targets a little tighter and don't have a problem with previous holes looking like fliers.

I would say Aikido for the top of the list. We worked defending against weapons, multiple attackers and making the ground your friend right from the start. :D (That's helped me more than one time in situations having nothing to do with self defense).

I work on a college campus so don't carry at work, although I do have my 9 in the truck. Other than work, I've always got my snubby with me.
My attitude is it's like my vehicle jack, hope I don't need it but wouldn't want to not have it if I did.

We were using balloons at the range for off hand cap and ball rifle shooting but the range officers shut that down. When asked why, the response was that the birds think the little bits that got missed in clean up were bugs, would be eaten by birds and hurt them.

I'm in humid sw florida and my safe is in the garage. I have a three car garage with a two car door. The third bay is a workshop. The safe is draped and has misc stuff stacked in front so is not immediately obvious. I have a heat stick in it that keeps humidity at bay.
