    Savage Axis XP 223 remington

I was looking at them for a while back when they were still called the edge. When I held it I hated it. The bolt was rough and the trigger was not very good. I ended up going with a Marlin XL7. But that was a year and a half ago. When Marlin was still Marlin and not Remington. Savage has...

Need a place to shoot in Boise...

You can shoot along highway 16 between Boise and Emmett on the West side. There's a little turn off point but you can't take a motorized vehicle there. There's a pretty big area for you to park and walk though. I've done it several times as I live nearby. If you go south of the airport, follow...

Best value sniper rifle - probably milsurp

Buy a Savage Model 16FXP3 in .308 ,and when you can put 5 rounds touching at 100 yards, buy a better scope and move up to 300. when you can shoot 6 inch groups every time at 300, get a better barrel and move up to 500. Then, if you want to shoot like a sniper, set up a target inside of 1000...

Anyone else NOT like AR15s ?

They make .223 rounds for deer. Further south the AR platform makes an ideal pig gun as well. Even more so are the other calibers that it can fire. .17 Remington .17-223 .17 HMR .17 HM2 .204 Ruger .20 Tactical.20 Practical .20 VarTarg .221 Fireball .22 LR .22 WMR .222 Remington .222 Remington...

Are "AR's" really worth the price ??

The AR is extremely versatile. If it doesn't fit you right, you can change the stock or handguard in less than 10 minutes. It is an extremely durable rifle, provided you buy quality parts. See Daniel Defense Torture Test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89HEefl1KI4 .223 isn't the only caliber...

What could be done differently -- Non-Guns Color Coded?

How would you go about making changes to make them more identifiable? It did almost happen. A lot of airsoft distributors are based in Cali because every airsoft part is made in China. It's less shipping that way. This past summer Cali tried to pass some law that stated that all replicas had to...

To the "AR15 for HD" Crowd

Here is a great article that goes into great detail about what works and why, in several calibers. http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm

    Whitetail hunting 450 yards

One of the messages that I see that gets repeated a lot on this forum is to get the best scope that you can. Using this philosophy I would recommend the Vortex Viper PST in a 4-16x50 setup. The scope does have an illuminated reticle, therefore check your laws about using one for hunting. The...

    S&W 2214 Loose Front Sight

How difficult is it to remove the front sight? Could I just use some needle nose pliers wrapped in electrical tape and pull it straight out?

    S&W 2214 Loose Front Sight

Well, as the title says I have a S&W Model 2214. It hasn't seen a whole lot of use, as it was a gift to my mom several years ago. However, the front sight has started get a lot of horizontal play. It has fixed sights but is there anyway for me to fix the sight or would I have to go to a smith...

    First AR purchase

Something to keep in mind is the PSA has a permanently attached flash hider. Well, AR-15s are legos for grown ups, and at some point you may want to change things around. If you want a suppressor or a different flash hider you at some point you will need to get a brand new barrel to do just that.

Low power scope for .270 win

I have a Marlin XL7 in .270. I put a Vortex diamondback in 4-12 with the BDC. I like it better than my buddy's leupold VX1. Its clearer, brighter, and has better contrast. Plus it has the best warranty out there.. I used a set of Weaver Quadlock rings that only cost 15 bucks. That's just over...

    Worst box of factory ammo

My favorite ammo is federal. It's reliable, it's accurate though my guns, and I've never had a jam. I run mostly american eagle and pmc bronze through my middy AR and it's fine. My bad experiences with ammo: 6 bad rounds with winchester in .270 Consistent jamming and FTF with winchester...

    Worst box of factory ammo

I had a box of Winchester .270 that was absolutely terrible. 5 of the 20 rounds could not be fired. 2 rounds had the neck out of spec and you could push the round in all the way but not close the bolt. 2 other rounds wouldn't even load into the chamber, and the other round had the primer too...

If you were going to build a defense AR-15, with the best of everything, what parts?

Didn't sabre def. go out of business? I thought they got charged with breaking several import and export laws and had to declare bankruptcy... There website doesn't work.
