    Anyone Deepen A NMA Chlinder?

If I were gonna deepen the chambers of a NMA, I'd go in w/a ball end mill of smaller than chamber OD, down to the face of the nipple. Cylinder locking slots are deep, & going past them, internally, at chamber ID, I think, is bad mojo. Hence, the smaller OD ball end mill. Keep the webb between...

Uberti and Pietta 1858 Remington barrel interchangeability

Uberti barrel into a Pietta frame: Uberti barrel in front of the cylinder is ~ 1/16" (.062") too short. Yup, it is pretty close, maddenly so.

Uberti and Pietta 1858 Remington barrel interchangeability

OK. Here we go...If the question is "are the barrels interchangeable, as in identical?" The answer is no. If the question is "are the threads the same on both barresl?" the answer is yes, at least since 2014. Metric system uses "pitch" to call out what we would call "threads per inch", "tpi"...

    Shiloh Sharps and 45-70 BPC???

Gotta 50/90 Shiloh from Farmingdale N.Y. It's not a long range gun. At 1 turn in 36", twist is too slow for long bullets. Should be 18" or 20". "Loading the Black Powder Rifle Cartridge" by Paul A. Matthews is the one that saved my bacon. Chapter 3 is all about "grease cookies". Cookies keep...

Magspark .209 adapters for Ruger Old Army any good ?

Starting on page 37 of "the RUGER OLD ARMY club" thread, primer capsules are covered ad nauseum. 209 primers are too large to fit in the ignition ports at the back of ROA cylinders. Small pistol/rifle primers are what works. Kindest regards, Doak

    Underhammers

Underhammer long guns suffer from too shorta ram rods. When ram rod pipes are on the bottom flat, the length of the rod is limited by the nipple (or frizzen, :D). The solution derives from thinking outside the box. Place the pipes one flat over, on either side of the bottom flat, allowing the...

Tension or travel behavior of the frizzen and flint lifespan

You're right! Tuning & easing the frizzen spring is beneficial. The frizzen will work just fine w/out the frizzen spring. The frizzen spring's only real job is to keep the frizzen closed, or keep it open, depending on the shooter's wishes. Frizzen should snap open as the flint approaches the...

    cracked stock

I've always used super-glue. Cyanoacrylate (spell?), chemically. It capillaries well, deep into cracks. Cleans up w/acetone. Sands well. Scrapes well. Stores in freezer well. Gotta work fast, cuz it goes off quickly. Apply plenty, along full length of crack, all sides. Tape, clamp, rubber-band...

    Caplock problems

When the "set trigger" slaps the "sear bar" up, the "sear" moves downward, off the full cock notch, allowing the hammer to rotate forward. There's prolly not enuff trigger travel, to hold the "sear bar" up, far enuff, while the 1/2 cock notch rotates past the sear. Instead, the "sear bar"...

    Small pistol primers for C&B

Starting on page 37 of this forum, primer capsules are covered adnauseam. I'm still makin' 'em. Right now for Pietta 1858's, along w/reworkin' the revolver. Made a 1.1 GB disc of fotos & text covering the process. Disc is available, free, for anyone wanting the info. Send me a shipping...

    Pecatonica River Underhammer kit.

Underhammer's suffer from short ramrods, cuz the rod, when positioned on the bottom flat, runs into the nipple. The solution is to solder the ramrod pipes onto the next flat over, either to the left or rite, of bottom. Or place 'em on both side flats & carry 2 rods.
