1. Don't ever dry fire without magazine in place. But it's easy to remove the part that causes the problem if you choose to do so. After that, it doesn't matter.
2. I don't recall it needing a break-in period but I like to shoot 100-200 rounds through a new gun to become familiar with it...
Not being a 1911 fan either, I think it's a good deal for all concerned. You get two nice pistols and a sight that I-have-no-idea-if-it's-worth-jack for a gun you don't like and appear to want to get rid of.
Everything is a POS based on selected internet forums and owner-generated reviews. If you believe only the negatives, that is.
I had wanted a SIG since the mid 1970s when they started being imported, first as a Browning .45 BDA. Finally decided to lay out the cash for one a few years back...
I believe the letter of the law in my state is that you must get permission to carry a concealed weapon inside someone else's home but it's really a law that is unworkable and impractical in so many cases it becomes unenforceable.
This is an old thread that got resurrected, I see.
I own both guns and like them both. I don't intend to get rid of either of them but they truly are apples and oranges.
I would choose the Ruger with a heavy .357 Magnum round for bear or mountain lion. But I would rather have a rifle...
Personally, I prefer the newer SIGs. I've never owned one of the folded slide models but I see no benefit to it over the current US-made stainless slides.
However, I originally would have favored the trade simply because the OP wanted a 9mm instead of the .40 he has. Upon seeing the condition...
"I think I figured out the problem. Here's a quote: "Around 2009 Glock started making the locking block, firing pin and extractor (these are the parts that have been confirmed by Glock) by MIM." "
And how is this a "problem"?
Any new process in any endeavor is labeled as inferior. Using...
Todd Green of pistol-training.com said a long time ago that the days are over for buying a new firearm that works perfectly out of the box and continues to work perfectly as long as it is owned.
Still, too many people expect the impossible. When the impossible doesn't happen, they complain...
I get American Rifleman with my NRA membership but that's it as far as reading gun magazines go. And I really don't "read" it that much since AR, like every other gun mag, is on a honeymoon with every single gun in existence. Skimming an article about a gun that I know from experience is a POS...
I haven't read the other responses so I don't know what direction this thread has taken.
Going back to the OP's original question, I have owned several S&W revolvers. Older S&Ws had excellent trigger pulls, including a 20+ year old J-frame. Newer J-frames have pretty stiff and rough...
I carry spare ammo. If I'm carrying a revolver, I carry one or two reloads in Speed Strips. If I'm carrying an auto, I carry one or two extra magazines.
