    now, aside from low cost...

I think 9mm gets a bad rap because the military insists on using ball ammo which is the least effective form. If you use a good load of JHPs then it is plenty effective.

Dan Wesson .357 8" barrel in DFW, TX

This is a Dan Wesson .357 with an 8-inch barrel. It is one of the models manufactured in Monson, Mass. I inherited this revolver so I don't know a whole lot about it. I believe it is a Model 15 but I can't say for sure. The finish is in very good condition. It does, however, seem to have...

    TacLights for AK's

I suppose it's entirely possible somebody could make a side-mounted light that used a standard AK side mount intended for optics. I don't know if anyone has though.

    Better AK?

Saigas are quality Russian guns, coming out of the Izmash factory, same as where Russian military AKs come from. Here is a pic of mine which was converted to AK103 configuration. Straight outta the box they are just sporter rifles though with sporter furniture.

    Domestic WOLF type ammo?

I wonder if aluminum cased ammo would be good enough. CCI makes pistol ammunition in aluminum cases but I haven't seen rifle ammo. It was a bit cheaper than the cheapest WWB last time I looked.

    AK-47 catches fire!

Was that a pile of rocks he was shooting at? If so, he's lucky none of those rounds came back and hit him, especially since he wasn't even wearing eye protection. I tend to agree that he probably put some kind of flammable substance on the barrel beforehand.

plastic waffle 7.62 39 ak mags

Bulgarian polymer waffle mags are good quality. If it doesn't work there is probably something wrong with the gun.

    5.45 or 7.62 x 39?

Just a year or two ago a lot of people were selling off 5.45 rifles because the ammo was so expensive to get. Right now there is a big influx of it and it is cheap. No telling how long that will last, though.

    Lapua 7.62 X 39 Ammunition

The only advantages I could possibly see is that it might burn a little cleaner and maybe be a little more accurate. A quick search looks like about 33 cents a round. Probably not worth it for plinking in a Russian-type gun.

Buying advice wanted: SKS or AK47

Another vote for Saiga. The WASR is the cheapest AK you can buy. They will go bang if the monkeys put it together right but there are much better examples of AKs out there. The SKS is a fine rifle but they tend to be heavier and less balanced (especially the Yugo 59/66). The nice thing about...

    My first SKS!!!

Congrats. Many (most) aftermarket SKS mags are not all that reliable so be prepared to have issues with it. Find yourself the non-detachable 10 rd mag that comes with those standard and you should be golden.

    Best 7.62x39 Ammo for VEPR

Most AKs will feed pretty much anything. Wolf happens to be cheapest so that's what mine gets. :D I have been buying the Wolf Military Classic FMJ lately since I found some at a good price.

    SKS Mags

The Chinese 20 rounders, if you can find one, are generally the only ones that will work reliably other than the standard 10 rd mag.

    Cosmoline removal ??

Non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner in an aerosol can is very effective at getting it out of nooks and crannies. It will evaporate off and leave the metal dry (and you'd protect it with CLP or whatever once you were done cleaning of course). It's like $1-2 at Walmart last I checked. Mineral...
